Could this £35m man really end up being Arsenal’s Lionel Messi?

Julian DraxlerArsenal have been in the market for German ace Julian Draxler for some time now, but the rumours linking him with a January move to the Emirates still seem to have come out of nowhere.

Everybody’s expecting Arsene Wenger to sign a striker to help support Olivier Giroud, but all the speculation surrounding the club surrounds yet another attacking midfielder.

Admittedly, the boy is something special. If Arsenal were to avoid signing another striker, Draxler would be more than a consolation prize. This young man could represent the future of the club. He could be the talent that drives the club onward to success.

The Mirror ran an article suggesting that he could end up being as important to Arsenal as Lionel Messi is to Barcelona. Need your monthly supply of hyperbole? Check out the following sentence: “…while his ability to score from the wing can draw comparisons to the likes of Bale, Neymar, or a young Ronaldo, his movement off the ball is firmly in the school of Leo Messi.”

So he has the qualities of the four best players in the world? Very nice. I think there’s probably an easier comparison to be made. I think he could be to Arsenal, what Cesc Fabregas used to be for the club. I use Fabregas not as a direct comparison, but to signify how important and influential he could end up being.

Without getting quite so carried away, I think it’s fair to say that the 20-year-old is a player who’s worth getting excited about.

Given his youth and his current ability, he’s also probably earned his £35m price-tag. Still, that’s a lot of money for Arsenal to have to shell out. Whether the club can afford it remains to be seen. Still, I’d love to see this deal go ahead. Can you picture a midfield that has Mesut Ozil, Julian Draxler, Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey in it? That’s a midfield that could well give Barca’s a run for its money.

It’s also worth noting that marquee signings can have a remarkable effect on a team. Just look at the way signing Mesut Ozil breathed fresh life into an ailing Arsenal side. Bringing Julian Draxler to the Emirates could have a similar effect.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see how this one pans out.

What’s your take? Should the Gunners swoop in for this German super star? Can they afford to seal this deal?

  • Delford Magaya says:

Arsenal need a striker for sure, but it is very difficult during January transfer window. Arsenal is creating so many chances than any other teams in the league but they do not have a striker to convert goals. We need a player who can score goals. I think it is up to the manager Arsene Wenger to know who to buy. We can talk and talk, but the manager is the right person to decide before the transfer window closes. I can see our rival Man City and Chelesea are becoming too strong. So we need to act and strengthening our squad before we begin to say, we should have done this and this???. We dont want that to happen. The manager is responsible he should act now before too late.

Draxler will be more better……… he can play any where starting midfield…..

Why would any arsenal fans have doubts about the timing of this potential signing is beyond me.draxler may be young, but he has proven himself even at international level.and we are talking about germany here.not ghana not england not south korea.but a team that has a fantastic world cup records.and to be even selected to be in that team at the age of 20,speaks volume about him.regardless of whether his position is needed anot in arsenal atm,if he is available then we better seal the deal and not let him slip away to other big clubs

As you can see, this is the golden oppurtunity for Arsenal to lift up this trophy, for that you have to beef up the front row, that is where we are lacking fire bcos Girioud is not there at all.Is better we get this Draxler, Barbatov the £2million on his head is so cheap and Vucinic from Juventus.Pls adhere to my opinion and you should forget about Bendtner as a striker.

To me,what arsenal just need for now Is a loan deal for a striker like giovinco or morata to complement d efforts of our attacking minded midfielders. Then, comes summer tranfer wenger should pls I beg him with d name of Almighty Allah buy d pace, powerful, deadly and proven goal banger Christian d Great BENTEKE.

  • G says:

have u no idea those 5 in the midfield we would get killed last year nearly every goal was Ramseys fault and any time this side has Flamini out its in trouble if Flamini and Arteta out its beat

  • sulaiman issa says:

The should buy him is fantastic player

  • Ac collins says:

I commed AW for job well done, but am still affraid in a sutiuation where 19 to 21 chances was created per match and 2 was converted. Seriously there is need for a striker, and am convinced that AW can convert Draxler to be best striker in the world.

  • Enyang Bonny says:

In my own opinion, arsenal does not need a very talented striker.just be sharp and know how to position yourself, you will be the top scorer in the league.olivier is too untalented and unconcious.take a look at gnabry’s shoot that he blocked.this shows a lot of unconciousness.you would rather play ten than include giroud,he has all the poor qualities of a good striker.draxler is a player that every club in europe admires to give them trophies, why not arsenal?lets go for him and make him our box player.thiery was a defender, but wenger made him world class striker what about draxler?no striker not defence not silvers.

  • Ted says:

Where will he play coz he prefers to play in the CAM and you know who is there..

  • LB says:

Of course we can afford him, being that we have £108 million in the tranfer kitty ( and that was the residual after the Ozil purchase ! ). Let’s stop talking bollocks about ‘if we can afford’, when it really comes down to a matter of ‘true’ desire ? Personally, I’d opt for Martinez and Draxler and the £70 mill outlay ( combined ) would be money very well spent indeed.

  • gaRvey emeka says:

Please wenger should buy and stop all the preaching coz we are tired of his style. Make the arsenal faithful smile a little, we need trophy not money you make every year and nothing to show for it

  • Ofoni Charles says:

will need draxler nd a goal scoring striker not just a striker but Good one in the box

  • chege says:

Yes that deal should be put on paper &pen without further warning
