Could this be the ideal loan move for Spurs?

Joleon LescottAndre Villas-Boas spent a lot of money on Tottenham’s midfield last summer. Clearly Gareth Bale’s exit played on his mind. I can’t help but feel that he overcompensated. I only wish that he focused a little more on signing another striker (Roberto Soldado doesn’t seem to have what it takes) and assessing the defence.

Of course, injuries to Younes Kaboul and Jan Vertonghen has exacerbated the problem. But would it not have been safe to assume that Kaboul would get limited game time this season? He’s a gifted centre-back, but he’s always been an injury magnet and isn’t the kind of player you can afford to rely on.

Then there’s Michael Dawson, who tends to perform extremely sporadically. As the club’s longest serving player, I can understand why he still receives so much support from the fans. But on his day, he can be a liability. He’s capable of making costly mistakes, he’s not pacey enough to recover from them and he doesn’t seem to be as strong in the air as he used to be.

Should Tottenham be building a defense around this man? I don’t think so.

Regardless, I hope that new Spurs boss Tim Sherwood will spend some time assessing his defensive personnel this January. Hopefully he can even persuade Daniel Levy to loosen his purse strings once more.

Interestingly enough, The Mirror have proposed an affordable, short-term option to help solve the problem. They claim that Spurs are currently preparing a loan move for Manchester City defender, Joleon Lescott. If it’s true, it would be a smart move for the club.

Though he’s playing less and less nowadays, the English centre-back remains a top defender. At 31-years-old, he’s got the experience, know-how and ability to improve Tottenham’s backline. He’s come a long way since his days at Wolves and deserves to be playing regular football.

He’s only made 11 appearances for Manchester City this season. Last year he only made 28. This diminished role is why Tottenham stand a chance of getting him on loan. But it’s not a knock at the player himself. There’s just too much competition at the Etihad, where it’s hard for even the very best players to make their mark.

But Spurs can provide him with an exit route. Here’s hoping that Tim Sherwood is ready to do the necessary.

What’s your take? Should Spurs attempt to take Joleon Lescott on loan?

We never replaced king at the back, modders in mid field, berba up top or vdv… Not to mention mr bale. Wer always a few good players short an now we have defensive midfielders coming out of our arse no world class striker an a very sketchy defence. 100mill spent an not a great deal to show for it.. 2 players costing around 30 mil each, neither performing very well. Coulda been alot worse in fairness..
