Yohan CabayeNewcastle fans must be sick and tired of hearing rumours about their star midfielder, Yohan Cabaye. The Frenchman has been instrumental to the Magpie’s drive up the Premier League table this season and it’ll be difficult to part ways with him when the moment comes.

But that moment is coming. It’s almost inevitable now. Cabaye batted eyelashes with Arsenal during the summer. Whilst that move never came to fruition, the rumours haven’t stopped coming and he has been a popular man during the January transfer window. According to The Metro, PSG were readying a £21m bid for the Frenchman.

That’s a huge amount of money and it just goes to show how highly regarded Cabaye is. But Newcastle fans can breathe a sigh of relief. The Metro claim that Cabaye isn’t keen on the move as he’s worried about his first team chances should he leave the Magpies.

Whilst he’s the belle of the ball at St James’ Park, that wouldn’t necessarily be the case at Parc des Princes. There he’d be squaring off against the likes of Thiago Motta, Mohamed Sissoko and Javier Pastore in a fiercely competitive midfield. I can’t help but feel that Cabaye is a good enough player to become a first-team regular for the Ligue 1 side, but it is something of a gamble for the 28-year-old to make.

As the aforementioned source notes, now that PSG’s deal has fallen through, the door’s open once more for Cabaye’s old suitors to re-enter this picture. Arsenal could once more have an opportunity to get their man.

We all know that Arsene Wenger loves talented French players, especially those who are comfortable on the ball, have good technique and can pick out a pass. Yohan Cabaye has all this in spades. He does seem to be a footballer in the Arsenal mould, if such a thing exists.

Arsene Wenger only needs to decide whether he really needs yet another attacking midfielder in his squad.

With Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta and others carrying plenty of threat, this doesn’t look like a ‘necessary signing’. But it is a signing that would improve the squad overall and that’s often something that Wenger finds appealing.

Given the Professor’s previous track-record, it wouldn’t surprise me if this deal were to go ahead.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal make yet another move for Yohan Cabaye?
