Could this £30m Serie A superstar be the perfect Spurs solution?

Giuseppe RossiWhilst  a 2-2 draw with Manchester United is nothing to shrug your shoulders at, I’m sure some sections of the Spurs support will have had their fingers crossed that their side would deliver three points.

It’s been a rather turbulent few weeks for Andre Villas-Boas and a victory over a lacklustre United side would have been the perfect tonic.

Spurs have struggled for goals all season long. In the absence of Gareth Bale, a lot of pressure has been heaped onto the shoulders of newbie Roberto Soldado. Unfortunately, he’s been unable to come up with the goods and the rest of Tottenham’s new signings are taking their time to adapt to English football.

With Jermaine Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor also failing to impress, it’s clear as to why Spurs are struggling. As such, it’s easy to see why AVB is feeling so under pressure.

So what’s the solution?

It’s clear enough. Daniel Levy and co. did a lot of spending during the summer transfer window, but they’ll have to get their wallets out one more time when the transfer window slides open again this January. They need to sign another striker. Somebody with a bit of pedigree.

As such, it’s my hope that they choose to go in for former Manchester United ace, Giuseppe Rossi. He could well be the solution to all of Tottenham’s goal-scoring woes. Luckily enough, The Mirror suggest their is some Spurs interest in the Italian.

Since leaving Old Trafford, he’s moved from strength-to-strength. He really made a name for himself at Villarreal, particularly in 2010-11, where he found the back of the net 32 times in 56 games.

Last January he moved to Fiorentina as part of a 10m euro move. He’s not showing any signs of slowing down either: the 26-year-old has scored 12 goals in 15 games. He’s also grabbed 3 assists in the process.

Beyond his goals, he’s also got excellent technical ability, a great range of passes and he’s a strong dribbler. I’m sure he’d link up well with this Spurs midfield.

Given his fine goal-scoring form, it’s clear that he’d be a perfect fit for Tottenham. Unfortunately for Andre Villas-Boas, he’s not going to come cheap. He’s currently under contract with Fiorentina until 2017. It’s believed he has a £30m release clause.

The Spurs top-brass have already shown a willingness to spend when necessary. Given the situation, I’d say that this is a necessary move. Let’s see if Daniel Levy has the stones to make it happen.

What’s your take? Can Spurs afford to compete for Giuseppe Rossi?
