Wesley SneijderIt’s amazing that Wesley Sneijder has yet to play any football in the Premier League. For somebody who’s been in the game so long and has such a gift, it’s a shame that we haven’t been able to see him square off against British football’s brightest and best on a regular basis.

It’s especially difficult to understand given the number of times that he’s been linked with a move to the Premier League. In particular, he seems to have been linked to Manchester United on numerous occasions.

Manchester United are in a real spot of bother at the moment. Whilst they’ve progressed in the Champions League, their position in the Premier League table is very disappointing. I can’t help but feel that the club needs to make a big signing to try and turn things around.

Sir Alex Ferguson was interested in Wesley Sneijder whilst he was still at Inter Milan. A deal never happened (obviously) and I can’t help but wonder if this was due to his wage demands. Now he’s experienced a season at Galatasaray, I can’t help but wonder if he’s ready to join the big Leagues once more.

Is he ready to finally make his move to the Premier League? Check out these quotes from the man himself:

“I know only as much as you do, just the reports in the newspapers, which seem to come out every time the transfer window is about to re-open. It’s pretty annoying when you’re playing in Turkey. The people here are very emotional and passionate about it all.”

“I have no desire to have to justify myself to the people every time my name is in the media. I am happy here, but you never know for certain what will happen in football.” (Source: The Star)

It seems he’s both ‘happy’ and ‘annoyed’? Either way, he’s certainly left the door open for a potential move away from the Turkish side.

At 29-years-old, Sneijder probably only has one more top move left in him. I can’t help that it involves him finally making a move to Old Trafford. His technical ability, grace on the ball, passing range and intelligent play would help wake the club from its slumber.

I hope David Moyes chances his arm in the January transfer window.

What’s your take? Is it time for Manchester United to wrap up a deal for Wesley Sneijder?
