Sami KhediraDavid Moyes and co. have got themselves into a right pickle. Manchester United haven’t looked quite this bad for some time. A couple of weeks ago, the Red Devils managed to pull off a surprise victory over title contenders Arsenal. It was a result that had pundits claiming United were right back in the title race.

Unfortunately that hasn’t proven to be the case. Whilst the Gunners have gone from strength to strength, Manchester United have capitulated again and again. It’s hard to watch.

This Manchester United side needs some serious investment. There needs to be more quality in all areas of the pitch.

When I first heard the rumours about Sami Khedira, I wasn’t so sure he’d be a good fit for Manchester United. But now that The Star continue to recycle the story, I’m beginning to come round to the idea.

My main qualm with a potential deal for Khedira is based on the fact that he is a defensive, or holding midfielder. United shouldn’t really need to sign another one of those, given that they’ve just bought Marouane Fellaini.

But I have to say that I’ve been disappointed by the big Belgian’s input this season. He’s a big lad, who’s strong in the air, but he’s not been as effective along the ground as I would have liked. He’s got bags of technical ability, but doesn’t seem to distribute the ball particularly well. Perhaps he’d be better suited as a centre-forward?

Either way, he can definitely be improved upon. Khedira, on the other hand, is the real deal. The Real Madrid maestro is a tidy player who is both strong in the tackle and smart on the ball. He links up nicely with other midfielders and is more than capable of finding gaps in behind.

He shares Fellani’s technical ability, but is capable of doing more with the gifts he’s been given.

It’s thought that Madrid are keen to get Khedira put on a new long-term deal (his current contract expires in the summer of 2015). As such, United are going to have to put their money where their mouth is if they are really interested in signing him.

But it would be the kind of big signing that would put United back on the map again. His experience and know-how could be just what the club needs to get back to winning ways. So let’s see if David Moyes can make this one happen.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United really be interested in Sami Khedira?
