Manchester United’s squad currently seems a little worse for wear due to injuries and a lack of quality in all positions. But, this wonder singing could help to change that.
The man that David Moyes has got his eyes on is the Benfica and Argentina centre back Ezequiel Garay, who would slot into this United side easily.
Rio Ferdinand seems to be out of action more than he’s playing and it looks as if he’ll be retiring in the near future. Evans is a good committed player, don’t get me wrong, but I feel as if United need a world class defender if they want to win that precious league title at the end of the season. Another United defender who still has plenty of room for improvement is Chris Smalling. He’s still fairly young and when Vidic returns to fitness, I’m sure that either him or Evans will begin to warm the rather comfortable subs bench.
The Argentine comes with a hefty price tag of roughly £17 million, but if Moyes managed to grab him before Benitez does, the partnership of him and Vidic will surely be hard to break down.
The Red Devils are in pole position to sign the 27-year-old, but Moyes has been watching him for over 12 months now and may try to make a move during the summer.
Not much is known about Garay and many could argue that his age would mean that this buy would not help in the long term. United already have five centre backs to choose from, so would he really be necessary?
But just think about last season. Many thought the signing of Van Persie was a luxury considering they already had the likes of Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and others in their ranks, yet he turned out to be the man that won United the title. Garay wouldn’t necessarily make that much of an impact but he could still play a vital part in this United team, whether it be in the second half of the season or in the following season.
