Should Arsenal grant this gifted forward his ‘dream’ move?

Michy BatshuayiLast summer Arsene Wenger made the most distinctly un-Arsene Wenger like move of his entire career. He spent £42.4m on a single player.

That more or less tripled Arsenal’s previous transfer record and helped put Arsenal in contention for silverware this year. There’s simply no telling how important the signing of Mesut Ozil will be for the Gunners.

He’s already created an aura of belief among fans and players alike. As his on the pitch performances improve and he begins to influence the Premier League more and more, things are only going to get better for Arsenal football club.

Suffice to say, signing Ozil was a watershed moment for Arsenal. It was the moment that the club revealed itself as capable of competing for the world’s best footballers.

As such, it’ll be interesting to see where Wenger turns next. Will he continue to spend big and take this side to the next level, or will he tighten the purse strings once again?

Will he go after world football’s brightest and best, or will he do what he does best and start snapping up the world’s most gifted young footballers?

This preamble brings me to the news that Arsenal are chasing Belgian League sensation, Michy Batshuayi. The 20-year-old has been making a name for himself this season and could be set for a move to a big club. Given that he’s already scored 14 goals in 27 appearances this year, he’s certainly going to have turned a few heads.

Batshuayi recently spoke about his future and suggested that he could be ready to move on. Check out these quotes from the youngster:

“I don’t think I think will be playing in Belgium next season. My parents, especially my dad, think I’m ready for the next step. This summer there was some interest, but I decided I didn’t want to leave Standard without leaving a trace – being champion or being top scorer.

“I’ve two dreams clubs in Europe – Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund. Borussia because of their mix between quality and spirit, Arsenal because they give opportunities to young and talented players.”

He currently plays for Standard Liege, who have also spoken out about Michy’s future. The club’s president Roland Duchatelet said: “What is new is the interest of Arsenal, although Arsenal are just one of many clubs who are chasing our striker Michy.” (Source: The Star)

It’s clear that there’s something going on here. It could well be evidence that Arsene Wenger is back to his old ways (or at the very least, that he hasn’t abandoned his old ways entirely). Either way, it’s clear that this youngster is some player.

With Olivier Giroud looking increasingly knackered, a move for a sprightly young thing like Michy Batshuayi would probably be a good step forward for the club.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal move in for this Belgian League ace, or should they make a move for somebody with a bigger reputation?

If he is as good as they say then why not bring him? Wait for three yaers and go buy him at a high price.

I think Michy is certainly a very good player. Without question he will be a perfect fit for Arsenal. Arsenal MUST sign in January rather than later. That however if the can’t afford Cavani !!
