Is this ace striker the perfect choice for Spurs?

Javier HernandezIt may sound trite, but things aren’t looking good for Tottenham at the moment. The results simply aren’t coming, they’ve lost their manager and their chairman seems to be a little power mad.

Yes, I get that Andre Villas-Boas spent an awful lot of Daniel Levy’s hard-earned money. But the former FC Porto and Chelsea boss deserved a real shot. The influx of new players were always going to take some time to gel. It’s hard to understand why this wasn’t accounted for.

Now Tottenham are in an even worse position. They have a bunch of players who don’t know how to play alongside each other and they’ll have to get a new manager who doesn’t know the players. It’s an awkward situation.

With that pre-amble in mind, it may seem odd for me to suggest that Tottenham should sign another player during he January transfer window. But Spurs desperately need another striker.

Signing somebody who can hold up the ball, bring the midfield into play and provide their own goal-threat is the next essential step to getting this club competing again. Roberto Soldado just isn’t up to snuff. A lot of decent midfielders were brought in during the summer. Now they just need somebody to aim at.

With this in mind, I can’t help but feel that Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez is the perfect solution. The 25-year-old has spent the last two-or-three years on the periphery at Old Trafford. Surely he’s ready for a move to a club where he’d be considered top dog?

Either way, Tottenham will have to go in strong if they’re to have any chance of signing him. Check out these quotes from Hernandez’s agent: “I met Manchester United’s people about 10 days ago and they confirmed that there has been interest from various European clubs but they don’t plan to transfer him. They are aware that his impact has been limited but he will integrate more little by little.”

But given his limited role in the Manchester United squad, I’m sure an offer of the right kind could persuade David Moyes.

We all know what the Mexican has in his locker. He’s more than a super-sub. He’s a supreme finisher, has excellent mobility and timing and he’s difficult to track. In that sense, he’s a defender’s nightmare. Doesn’t that sound like a perfect fit for this Tottenham side?

What’s your take? Should Spurs move in for this frustrated Manchester United star?

I haven’t read such a load of cobblers as in this article for a long time. You certainly do need new writers to join the team, especially types who can get their facts right before going to print.

    Agree with Dave,

Sherwood has been with the club since the Redknapp days so how doesn’t he know the players? Did you even watch the last game? Adebeyor is back pairing with Soldado, and we have Kane as a third option. So I don’t think sherwood will buy a striker. As seen last game, Sherwood prefers the youngsters coming up from the youth and reserves.

I agree Dave this article is a load of tripe. ‘Signing somebody who can hold up the ball, bring the midfield into play and provide their own goal-threat’ – and then proposing signing Hernandez who clearly doesn’t fit that bill, apart from his goals!
