Daniel SturridgeAfter an exhilarating Merseyside Derby last time out, Liverpool fancied their chances against a Hull City side that are fighting above their weight class this season. Costly mistakes by Liverpool cost them the game, which they lost 3-1. This is the first time in history that Hull have beaten them in any competition.

Hours before kick-off Liverpool heard the news that they wouldn’t have Daniel Sturridge at their disposal. The forward is now out for 6-8 weeks with an ankle injury. This is a massive blow for The Reds, as he has scored 11 goals in 14 games in Liverpool’s best start since 2008.

At first the injury didn’t look that serious. But, after further testing it showed that Daniel had a ligament strain. With him and Suarez bagging goals regularly for the Merseyside team, he will certainly be missed. This was shown in the 3-1 away defeat at Hull.

Liverpool’s strike force now looks a little light. But Sturridge’s injury will give bit-part players a chance to prove their worth in the first team. Victor Moses on loan from Chelsea will be hoping to get more starts and prove himself.

Another hopeful will be Luis Alberto, who joined Liverpool from Sevilla in the summer. The fact that Iago Aspas has also been sidelined for a long period will also help this game-hungry duo.

During the Hull City game there were many mistakes  made by the Reds, with many stray passes dampening the mood. Skrtel was as solid as a rock in certain parts of the game, but not in other. There were two costly moments for him, as a massive deflection from an attempted block found the back of the Liverpool net and then a header back to Mingolet led to Hull’s third goal.

Was this just a blip for Liverpool following Sturridge’s bad news, or are troubling times coming for the Merseyside team? They now have two home games within four days at Anfield against Norwich on Wednesday and West Ham on Saturday.

This should lead to six points. The Reds will certainly be hoping to get back to winning ways. Let’s hope that Anfield becomes a fortress once again.
