Miralem PjanicWith all the talk about Manchester United lacking on the creativity front, the fans are going to want quick answers and easy solutions in the January transfer window. It’s my hope, however, that David Moyes doesn’t rush into anything. He needs to be patient, he needs to play the market and he needs to go after somebody who’s going to be around for a while.

Isn’t that exactly what Arsene Wenger did last summer? The Frenchman signed Mesut Ozil on deadline day and the Gunners haven’t looked back since. Manchester United, on the other hand, have looked noticeably diminished. Something needs to give.

At least David Moyes is aware of the issue. During the summer he went after Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara. It also looks like he’s circling Roma’s talented midfielder, Miralem Pjanic.

The 23-year-old has played 12 games this season, scoring three times and notching 4 assists. He’s also impressed due to his all round play, attracting the attention of both Manchester teams and Tottenham. (Source: The Star)

Unfortunately, Pjanic seems well settled at Roma: “I won’t exclude the possibility of one day playing elsewhere, but I doubt this will happen soon. It certainly won’t be in January, which is what some people have said, and certainly not in the next year and a half either.”

As we know, however, money talks. I wonder if Manchester United can’t change his mind by presenting him with a compellingly large wage packet.

The January transfer window isn’t the best time to bring in players who will make a lasting impact at the club. Whilst expectations will be high, Manchester United fans need to be realistic. It’s my hope that they go after a short-term solution like Andrea Pirlo (whose Juve contract is up at the end of the year), whilst putting in the ground-work it takes to sign a classy footballer like Miralem Pjanic.

This patient approach may not satisfy the United faithful, but it could be the best thing for the future of the club.

So don’t pjanic yet Manchester United fans (apologies!). A deal may not be readily forthcoming, but if David Moyes keeps the club in the race, they could yet get their man. Fingers crossed.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United continue to chase Miralem Pjanic, or has that goose been cooked?
