Why Arsenal should battle it out with Liverpool for this £30m La Liga sensation:

|

Diego CostaWith their 2-0 victory over Liverpool, Arsenal showed the rest of the world that they mean business this season. They’re currently five points clear at the head of the Premier League and it looks like they’re going to be difficult to dislodge.

Every one around Arsenal seems to be producing inconsistent results. You get the feeling that Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City could lose to anybody on their day. The Blues were looking strong this year, but their 2-0 loss to Newcastle has thrown a major spanner in the works.

Arsenal, on the other hand, have been a model of consistency. Since their 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa on the opening day of the season, they’ve earned 25 points out of a possible 27. That’s a sensational return. More importantly, that’s title-winning form.

But, back to that Liverpool game. What stood out was the way the Gunners moved the ball around. It was that much slicker, that much more accurate and that much more deadly than what Liverpool were able to produce. The creativity and ingenuity of their midfield is what makes Arsenal such a force.

But I think it’s fair to say that Liverpool hold more threat upfront. Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez offer more firepower than Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman has done a fine job for the Gunners this year, but can’t offer the same amount of cut and thrust as Liverpool’s deadly duo.

This is something that I hope Arsenal rectify in the transfer window. Signing another world-class striker should give the Gunners the impetus they need to win the Premier League this season.

The Gunners have been linked to a large list of top forwards, but one of the most appealing is Diego Costa. And that’s not just because he’s a Liverpool target and it would provide Arsene Wenger with another opportunity to get one over on Brendan Rodgers.

He’s scored 12 goals in 11 La Liga fixtures so far this season. His technique and confidence in front of goal make him a rather appealing transfer target. He’s certainly the kind of player who would fit in nicely at the Emirates.

The Star suggest that he may have a £30m price-tag. That’s a lot of money, but cash-rich Arsenal could certainly make a deal happen. If Arsene is on the hunt for a striker, Costa is one of the best options on the market.

What’s your take? Should the Gunners move in for this Liverpool target?
