Should Newcastle move in for this Spurs sensation?

Moussa DembeleAfter starting the season strongly, things have begun to slow down for Spurs. For one reason or another Andre Villas-Boas has chosen to rely upon his defensive talent (rather than the more exciting midfielders he has in his squad). What’s more, the club’s new striker Roberto Soldado has yet to set the Premier League alight. He just doesn’t seem to be mobile enough, or strong enough to carry Tottenham’s threat on his own.

Spurs are currently in 7th place and (worse still), certain players are beginning to let their frustrations show. The big Belgian bruiser, Mousa Dembele hasn’t been shy about speaking out regarding his new role in the squad:

“The coach has explained that he makes a tactical choice, he wants more defensive players in midfield. I can’t be satisfied with it, of course, I just want to play as many games.”

I can understand his frustration. With Spurs struggling from an attacking point of view, they should be leaning more on the likes of Dembele. The Belgian midfielder has such great feet, a quick mind and an eye for a pass. But what’s most impressive about Dembele is his strength and physicality. He’s very difficult to knock off the ball and that’s why he’s capable of making those marauding runs forward.

If Spurs aren’t interested in giving him more game time, I’m sure there’ll be plenty of other interested parties.

According to The Mirror, Southampton, Cardiff City and Swansea City are all interested in the buccaneering midfielder. But it’s Newcastle United who would likely appeal most to Dembele.

Whilst Alan Pardew needs to invest in a striker, a midfielder with the quality of Mousa Dembele would also be a good move. With better service into the likes of Papiss Cisse, who knows, maybe he’ll find his scoring boots again?

As of yet, there’s no word as to how much Dembele might cost the Magpies. It’s my hope, however, that Pardew is already doing the groundwork.

At 26-years-old, Dembele should be about to reach the peak of his career. But if he’s not playing that simply won’t be the case. If he can’t clamber above the likes of Paulinho and Sandro in the pecking order, maybe it’s time to move on?

What’s your take? Should Alan Pardew move in for this Belgian midfield maestro or steer well clear?

Have you watched Dembele recently? He is symptomatic of the current Spurs malaise: plays too slowly, too cautiously, doesn’t pass the ball quickly enough, doesn’t supply Soldado with early balls to feet. Wouldn’t suit NUFC any more than Spurs. He would drive Remy nuts. Better to stick with Cabaye and co who play high tempo, slick football. Mind you, if Pardew wants to swap Dembele for Cabaye then bring it on!
