Should Spurs pluck up yet another top class Brazilian?

Alexandre PatoSpurs made a whole host of signings during the summer transfer window, in order to cope with the loss of Gareth Bale.

Some top quality players were brought in. But if you believe the Papers, there’s plenty more to come.

Yes, Andre Villas-Boas has spent truckloads of cash in recent times, but that may not prevent the club from spending more in the near future.

In other words, this is a rather exciting time to be a Spurs fan. The club is looking ahead to the future and trying to stake a claim. If Tottenham can continue to be the highlight of each and every transfer window, they’ll soon become a genuine force in world football.

Whilst the club’s midfield is brimming with talent, I’d say that there’s still a need in the squad for another world-class centre-forward.

With Jermaine Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor under-performing in different ways, Roberto Soldado was drafted in during the last transfer window.

Unfortunately, the Spaniard is adapting slowly to English football. He’s the kind of centre-forward who doesn’t get involved in the action for long periods of the game. His influence is minimal and thus far he hasn’t been presented with too many opportunities.

As a result, he hasn’t exactly been hammering home the goals. That’s why Spurs need to consider bringing somebody else in. Some one who can provide proper competition for Soldado.

As luck would have it, it seems that Spurs are after another striker. What’s more, it’s a man they tried to sign last deadline day. Here we’re talking about ex-AC Milan star, Alexandre Pato.

Speaking about the last transfer window, the Brazilian has told the Press: “I received offers, they called Corinthians, sent a fax, to sign me in the window, but I sat down with the staff, talked with my agent and I told them I wanted to stay.” (Source: The Star)

Since these quotes were released, Pato’s form has suffered. He’s currently playing for Corinthian’s where he recently missed a penalty during a defeat.

His 16 goals in 50 games for the Brazilian club certainly don’t compare to his best seasons in an AC Milan shirt.

I’d say it’s about time that he embraced a new challenge. If Tottenham were to come back in for him again, I can’t help but wonder if he’d be interested in the move.

It’s certainly worth AVB testing the waters with a speculative bid during the January transfer window.

What’s your take? Should Spurs be pursuing Alexandre Pato?
