Fabio QuagliarellaArsenal fans are all too aware of just how important the signing of Mesut Ozil has been for the club. The £42.4m German has breathed fresh life into an ailing club.

The Gunners have struggled for years to challenge for silverware, but his arrival seems to have put them back in a position of power.

It’s not just his performances on the pitch that are impressive (though they certainly are), it’s his ability to inspire those around him that has made a big difference.

This season both Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud have made massive steps forward in their development. Compared to last year, they are like completely different players.

All of Aaron Ramsey’s flicks and tricks are coming off, his passing is slicker and he’s suddenly found his shooting boots.

Olivier Giroud has also revealed that he’s capable of neat build-up play and deft touches. This combined with his physique and his willingness to shoot, has made him one of the Premier League’s most feared strikers this year.

How much of their improvement can be put down to Mesut Ozil is unclear. But I’m sure they wouldn’t be playing at this level were it not for his arrival.

Arsenal signing Mesut Ozil was a watershed move. It was a coming of age for the club. It was the moment the club made it clear to the rest of the world that it was capable of competing for the same players that clubs like Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are after.

This brings me to The Star‘s claims that Arsenal are battling it out against Norwich, Southampton and West Ham to sign Fabio Quagliarella. The Italian star is also thought to be weighing up a potential move to the MLS.

Whilst Arsenal don’t have to keep spending £40m on players, signing a player like Quagliarella does seem like a step backwards. Simply by looking at his suitors and the fact that he’s struggling to make an impact with Juventus, it’s clear enough that the Gunners should steer clear.

Whilst Quagliarella is a tidy player, he’s never exactly been a goal-scoring sensation.

Arsenal do need another striker, but surely they can do better than Quagliarella?

With players like Karim Benzema and Robert Lewandowski on the market, I can only hope that Wenger has got his priorities right.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal leave Fabio Quagliarella for the likes of West Ham and Norwich?
