Time was that Manchester United would get embroiled in every single big transfer saga. But the arrival of David Moyes at the club seems to have knocked some of the stuffing out of the club’s negotiators. Unfortunately, Manchester United don’t seem to be the force they once were in the transfer market.
Sir Alex Ferguson had a magnetism about him that seemed to draw in top players. David Moyes, on the other hand seems to offer limited appeal.
As all the other top Premier League sides made impressive purchases (Arsenal signed Mesut Ozil for chrissakes!), Manchester United dithered. In the end, the club signed Marouane Fellaini, but this impressed exactly nobody.
The truth is, Manchester United spent a lot of money on a player they didn’t really need. I certainly hope that David Moyes doesn’t repeat the mistake during the transfer window.
This brings me to The Star‘s claim that Manchester United are in the running for Real Madrid’s £43m striker, Karim Benzema. Now this may initially seem to be another unnecessary signing, but hear me out.
I understand that Manchester United are fairly strong upfront. Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck are one of the best forward line-ups in world football. But it’s not clear how long David Moyes is going to be able to keep hold of these players.
Robin Van Persie isn’t getting any younger. Soon enough his pace and powers will begin to dwindle. Wayne Rooney, on the other hand, never seems to be quite happy at Old Trafford. There’s a chance he won’t still be at the club come the summer.
Eventually, Manchester United are going to have to start looking at bringing in another striker. If Karim Benzema’s available, I hope he’s on David Moyes’ list.
Yes, £43m is an awful lot of money. But apart from Robert Lewandowski, there are very few strikers on the market who could actually improve this Manchester United forward line.
The Frenchman isn’t having the best of times at the Bernabeu this year. He may well fancy a change of scenery and could be tempted if Manchester United were to come knocking.
It’s also worth noting that this is a signing that would put the Red Devils back on the map in a major way. So lets hope that Moyes can pull it off.

The priority is midfield and defence.
We are covered up front for another season but kets make sure we can feed then and stop giving away games
I’m sorry but I don’t agree. What Man Unites need is an attacking midfielder and world-class winger along with a good cb.
rather spend on the likes of julian draxler and angel di maria/koke. Garay is also a good option and Unites have Henriquez also who is out on loan, therefore they don’t need a striker

There is nothing wrong if he wants to sign Benzema but signing Benzema without a big creative mid-fielder will not still put Man Utd at the top…but if the plan is signing Benzema with a major mid-fielder will put United at the top
