Spanish ace ‘keen’ on Arsenal move: should Wenger seal the deal?

Soccer: Juventus' friendly matchIt’s amazing that Arsenal have done so well this season given the fact that they have only one good striker in their squad.

Liverpool’s success this season is being built upon the form and talent of both Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez. Manchester United won the Championship last year because they were able to rely on both Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie (and Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck).

Arsenal on the other hand, only really have Olivier Giroud.

Luckily enough, the Frenchman has been in sublime form this season. Whilst he was workmanlike last year, he’s really found his feet over the last couple of months. Suddenly he’s dominant in the air, impossible to muscle off the ball, a genuine physical presence and a threat in front of goal.

What’s more, he’s able to play the Arsenal way, trading flicks with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil and co. and linking up neatly with the rest of the team.

But what would happen if Olly Giroud were to pick up an injury? The Gunners would have to turn to Nicklas Bendtner, a man who has spent the last year or so out in the footballing wilderness. This really shouldn’t be the case, given Arsene Wenger’s aspirations of challenging for the title this season.

By now it’s clear that somebody will have to be brought in during the January transfer window. Arsenal just need a little more strength in depth.

According to The Mirror, Fernando Llorente, Juventus’ frustrated forward, is ‘keen’ on a move to the Emirates.

He only moved to Italy in the summer, but has struggled to get ahead of Carlos Tevez in the pecking order. With the World Cup looming, I’m sure he’s desperate for some first team football.

Arsenal could certainly offer him this. Arsene Wenger has a knack for helping players break into (or back into) their International sides.

A loan move for Fernando Llorente would probably be a smart option. It’ll keep Arsenal ticking over until the summer, when they can re-assess the situation and look to bring somebody in on a permanent basis.

If he’s keen, Arsenal should be too. This deal won’t break the bank in quite the same way, but it could be just as important as the one for Mesut Ozil.

What’s your take? Do Arsenal need another striker? Is Fernando Llorente the man for the job?
