Should Manchester United swoop for this unhappy Real Madrid star?

Sami KhediraGiven Manchester United’s reduced status this season, it’s only right that David Moyes should try to apply a soothing balm to the club’s wounds this January.

But given the Scot’s unwillingness to make additions during the summer, I certainly wont be holding my breath. Manchester United need to make additions to their squad. There are some key areas that need fleshing out. But David Moyes has provided little evidence to suggest that he’s the right man for this job.

I’d love to get proven wrong in this regard. I’d love for David Moyes to assert his presence in Manchester by making a top signing. I’d love for the ex-Everton man to break ties with the past and strike his own path, with new additions to the squad that are willing and ready to give their all.

This can happen. There are players out there who are ready to leave their respective clubs. Karim Benzema isn’t having a particularly good time of things at the Bernabeu this season and may fancy a change in scenery. Likewise, Benzema’s Real Madrid team-mate, Sami Khedira seems to be a bit fed up with his situation.

For a player to speak out about his situation and highlight the fan’s role in his unhappiness is a big step. Whilst he hasn’t exactly made his position at the Bernabeu untenable, it’s not going to be easy for him moving forward.

Speaking recently to the Press, Khedira said: “I’m not a Spanish player, I did not cost much money and I’m one of Mourinho’s disciples. I started the season on the bench or in the stands. Although if I play well, I am the scapegoat and will therefore not be properly assessed.”

Now may be the right stage in his career for him to seek a move elsewhere. As luck would have it, The Star has linked the German international to both Chelsea and Manchester United.

Either club would provide a great fit. But it’s Manchester United who need him most.

A lot has been made of Manchester United’s lack of creativity, particularly in the middle of the park. Bringing in a player like Khedira would allow for Marouane Fellaini and even Michael Carrick to play further up the pitch and influence the play more.

Whilst I’d argue that United also need to bring in somebody with a creative spark, signing Khedira would be a step in the right direction. The Star suggests that United had a £35m bid for Khedira turned down on deadline day.

This only goes to show how highly the man is rated and provides further evidence that this is the kind of player that United should be chasing.

Let’s hope that David Moyes is more successful come January.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United go back in for Sami Khedira this January?
