Should Manchester United offer this £30m creative talent his ‘dream’ move?

Ilkay GundoganManchester United seriously need to add an injection of creativity into their midfield. There’s little wonder that David Moyes has had such a poor start to life at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick is excellent in the holding role. He keeps possession extremely well. Marouane Fellaini is a good, strong, rugged defender who is pretty handy with the ball at his feet. Tom Cleverley is developing well (but still isn’t quite there).

But these aren’t players that you would expect to provide United with the creativity they need to push them to further success this season. Given that Shinji Kagawa doesn’t seem to be in David Moyes’ plans and that Adnan Januzaj is so young, it’s likely that the Red Devils will have to turn to the transfer window this January.

And might I suggest that David Moyes follows Arsene Wenger’s lead? I’d love to see him go after Arsenal transfer target, Ilkay Gundogan.

Can any United fan deny that Manchester United should have been in the running for Mesut Ozil this summer? Whilst Moyes was wasting time on Thiago Alcantara (who moved to Bayern Munich) and Cesc Fabregas (who didn’t fancy leaving Barcelona), Wenger was hashing out a deal for one of the best, most inventive midfielders in the world.

But given that Arsene Wenger got his man, he’s less likely to move in for Ilkay Gundogan, who is an extremely impressive player in his own right. He’s no Mesut Ozil, that’s for sure, but at just 22-years-old, he could well develop into somebody just as good.

The talented German midfielder is under contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2015, but has refused to sign a new deal. What’s more, The Star notes that Gundogan has previously labelled Manchester United ‘his dream club’.

There certainly seems to be plenty of room for negotiation. But he won’t come cheap. He could cost as much as £30m.

But good players don’t come cheap. United have a clear need and Gundogan will tick more than a few boxes. His quick passing, excellent technical ability and reading of the game will be a serious asset for the club.

Feeding off Arsene Wenger’s sloppy seconds isn’t a particularly glamorous transfer strategy, but when the player’s as good as this, it makes a lot of sense.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United look into signing Ilkay Gundogan?

First of all United DID try to sign Ozil-he chose Arsenal. This is common knowledge. Second-why would he go to Manchester knowing that Kagawa’a creativity has been overlooked by both Alex Ferguson and David Moyes? What potentially world class player wants Phil Neville for a coach?

  • Whakeel says:

Though it’s good to bring this player to give Carrick resting time&i think Kagawa should give a space, because i can see him putting strenght on is ball than before,so,MOYES should free him a bit so that he can prove himself.

In creativity and in defence we are struggle. Get gudogan and 2 central and 1 leftback defenders. OH and a left winger.

i think he should join united

  • JOSIAH says:

MOYES should give Kagawa,Nani and Januzaj enough of playing time to display their respective talents.Ferdinand should not play full time in any match again and Evra should be warned of overlapping.

  • pp says:

United dont need this boy or any other central midfielder,we all know united do their creativity from the wings só What they need is to have moys get the right balance and they will get rolling again

  • Ezana says:

the fact remains man u needs a midfielder. A midfielder like gundogan we have a good left wing shining now i mean januzaj nani is in the right so we are good in front. We are poor in defense though
