Things had been going swimmingly for Spurs until a North London derby defeat to Arsenal. Whilst Andre Villas-Boas’ team acquitted itself well and were unlucky not to have walked away with a draw, it did throw a spanner in the works.
After all, the club had been building up a head of steam. Losing a player of Gareth Bale’s quality would cripple most teams. But thanks to AVB, Daniel Levy and Franco Baldini that wasn’t the case for Tottenham. Instead, they spent heaps of money and came away with a squad that’s arguably even stronger than last years.
Unfortunately, the Gunners backed up their derby victory by signing Mesut Ozil, one of the best midfielders in the world. This signing alone may be enough to secure them a top four slot and could even see them compete for silverware. As a result, Spurs could be left empty handed once more.
But it doesn’t have to end up this way, especially if some of Tottenham’s new recruits fulfil their potential at White Hart Lane.
I’m particularly excited to see former Ajax starlet Christian Eriksen make an impact in the Premier League. The Danish ace was instrumental in guiding the Dutch club to it’s 32nd Eredivisie title, pulling the strings in the middle of the park and scoring 10 goals in 33 appearances.
Despite his youth (he’s just 21-years-old), he’s already earned comparisons to Steven Gerrard, due to his all-action style of play, passing range, goal-scoring ability and grace on the ball. He may not be quite as strong in the tackle, but he is extremely exciting to watch.
He’s a similar kind of player to Lewis Holtby, but is likely to get more game-time at White Hart Lane as he’s slightly further down his development pathway.
That’s why there were so many clubs after him during the summer transfer window. Check out these recent quotes from Eriksen: “Dortmund was interested, and they approached me. I guess that they have contacted all the candidates they had, and I was one of the many. They were interested, and there was a phone call from them. I think Tottenham fans will end up being extremely glad that he signed for their club. He may not make the kind of immediate impact that Ozil will make for Arsenal, but over the next two-or-three seasons, he’s going to become a real star.

Yes Spurs need more than 1 CREATIVE player at midfield, AND ATTACKING PLAYERS, otherwise, Soldado will be left alone. The Wings ARE GOOD, like LENNON, CHADLI, LAMELA.
The Wingers and attacking mid-fielders, will HELP EACH OTHER, and ATTACK.
Sandro, Paulinho, Capoue and Dembelle will control the midfield.
Come On Ye Spurs.
Still concerned re left back where we were weak against Arsenal (and indeed that is where their fluke goal came from). Hopefully between Chirches and Verts they will cover that position when Rose belts up the park.
I don;t agree with the Article in terms of Arsenal’s position and challenging for silverware. If its teh Sweet FA cup or the who cares cup I’m not concerned but for anything major I doubt if their back line is good enough. They managed to “park the bus” when playing us but that was because we weren’t playing Eriksen or Holtby in the pocket. READ MY LIPS ARSENAL WILL FINISH NOWHERE – NOT EVEN TOP FOUR. They are a has been team and they have no direction.
Lamela, eriksen and soldado will be important for us and will eventually do the biz! But sandro well for me should be our next captain dembele is the one who has to look over his shoulder truss
