Why this super swap deal would be perfect for Arsenal:

Nicklas BendtnerArsenal have been trying to get rid of Nicklas Bendtner for the last two-to-three seasons. Unfortunately, the Great Dane seems to be sticking around like a bad smell, despite Wenger’s best efforts to waft him away.

During this time, Nicklas Bendtner’s career has begun to drift away into nothingness. Whilst he managed to make a slight impact at Sunderland (not enough to convince them to sign him up), he barely featured for Juventus last season.

If he were to stay with the Gunners this summer, I just couldn’t see him featuring in a single Premier League game (unless the club was hit by an injury crisis). It’s not that Arsenal are flush with options up front – that’s just how far the Danish striker’s stock has fallen.

Bendtner has become a laughing stock. Despite a lack of game-time, he’s been able to fill column inches through his poor attitude and his antics. The more this happens, the harder he will be to sell. Arsene Wenger must be desperate to cut ties with him before he partakes in another unfortunate stunt and effectively ends his top-level career.

Hamburg were thought to be interested earlier this summer, but have been put off by his wage demands (typical!). Fortunately, Malaga are ready to step in. According to The Independent, they are offering Arsenal a swap deal for Bendtner that would see their club captain, Jesus Gamez move in the other direction.

This, I think, would be a good move for the Gunners. Indeed, I’m a little surprised that the La Liga side are willing to let Gamez go. For a start, he’s the club’s captain. What’s more, he has three years left on his contract.

Gamez is an experienced right-back (28-years old, 238 appearances for Malaga), known for his tough-tackling and a willingness to get forward and support the attack. He’s a consistent performer and is something of a Malaga fan favourite.

I’d argue he’d be an excellent squad player for Arsenal, given the current right-back situation at the club. Bacary Sagna looks to be on his way out. Carl Jenkinson doesn’t look to be ready quite yet. Isn’t Gamez the ideal stop-gap solution?

This deal would effectively kill two birds with one stone. The Gunners would finely pluck the Bendtner thorn from out of their paw and in return, they’d make a rather pragmatic addition to their squad. That sounds like a win-win to me.

What’s your take? Should the Gunners strive ahead with this swap deal?

Noone in their right mind would offer Bentner what he demands, so he’ll be an Arsenal player until his contract expires next summer. He might get loaned out in a deal where Arsenal have to pay atleast 50% of his insane £60k a week contract.

If Bendtner was as good a footballer as he is making a fool of himself he’d score 50+ PL goals each season. Unfortunatly he’s much better at getting drunk than scoring goals
