Why Arsenal shouldn’t be scared away by his £22m price-tag:

BernardEvery summer there seems to be a young Brazilian ace on the market, providing temptation for the European elite. Whether it’s Chelsea’s chase for Oscar, Manchester United on the hunt for Lucas Moura, or Liverpool swooping in for Philippe Coutinho (admittedly this happened in January), the Premier League just can’t seem to say no to South American talent.

The most recent Brazilian youngster to pique the interest of clubs throughout Europe is the laughably named, ‘Bernard’.

According to The Mail, Arsenal were forerunners for the 20-year-old play-maker. Unsurprisingly, however, the Gunners have been put off by his £22m price-tag.

Arsenal fans must be used to this situation by now. They’ve let deals slip for both Stevan Jovetic and Gonzalo Higuain, because they’re unwilling to meet other club’s valuations for their players. The Luis Suarez saga has also been a telling showcase for the Gunners’ tight-fisted nature in the transfer market.

Despite Bernard’s potential, the Gunners seem to have lost interest. As this has happened, Porto’s interest in the youngster seems to be heating up. Bernard’s father, Delio Duarte recently told the Press that he had spoken to fellow Brazil star, Hulk, who gave him the following advice:

“Hulk has convinced Bernard that Porto would be better for him at this stage of his career.

Porto would be a better move for his career. It would be a dream of mine to see him playing for them.”

Porto? Really? With all due respect, the Primeira Liga is usually nothing more than a two-or-three horse race, and the quality of clubs below the top four leaves a lot to be desired. If Bernard wants to improve as a footballer, he’d be better suited to the Premier League, where you get a tough game each and every week.

His dad and a fellow Brazilian international are sure to exert a lot of influence on young Bernard. I just hope they don’t lead him astray.

If Arsenal are still interested, they would be a perfect fit. They value young, technically gifted players above all else. Arsene Wenger is also patient and knows how to get the best out of developing stars.

In all likelihood, this is a money thing. Porto are probably willing to cough up, whilst Arsenal aren’t. But why? The Gunners have been missing out on targets all summer long. Do they really want to let another opportunity slip through their fingers?

In Bernard’s case, I certainly hope not. This strikes me as a match made in heaven.

What’s your take? Should the Gunners’ re-ignite their interest in Bernard?

Hey Mr Wenger, have you been watching this boy Bernard. He vcan certainly find the back of the onion basket and he can distribute to others to score too. Why ohwhy must us gooners be subjected to the same old rubbish of having cash but not spending it. I hope the board ar elooking up the road and seeing the spuds getting stronger, the Bale saga aside. David Dein knew a quality player and mind signing them up.

  • Turner J.A. says:

I wonder why Mr. Wenger is so tight-fist. I hope he will not kill a lot of Arsenal Supporters with his misery act? What is £50m and £22m for both Suarez and Bernard.

Wenger is stingy, bernard is worth it his a brazilian class, he’s 20 and will only grow better and more expensive, look at how arsenal were before(henry, viera, campbell, siemen) and look at dem now(walcott, giroud, diaby, benyner) they sound like comedians not footballers arsenal players are shit now except chamberlain, wilshere, podolsk, arteta, he needs 2 get sacked trust me that’s the only way we will win

  • abbz says:

wenger is a joke, he got 70 mill , the guy need to spend it trust me, luckily we didn’t get higuain for more tan 30 mill coz honestly he aint worth that and we shouldn’t go over 40 mill, arsenal players sound like comedians (giroud, walcott, diaby,)Walcott is over rated look at how many times he misses he’s not top quality sell him asap, hes got bent foot

  • abbz says:

common compare arsenal players with other teams, the only good players are podolski, arteta, cazorla, wilshere, chamberlaine, and it used to be vermalen, I suggest go bak to old school untouchable unbeatable arsenal. get a defensive mid like viera, a rock hard solid CB like sol Campbell, striker like henry, keeper like siemen, we need a lot of signings

  • sengi says:

Arsen wenger is like a comedian for me.he says he will buy but we say notting why?

  • Akuve says:

Gud buoys but y’all kno 70 Mills aint enuf cash 2 beef up d squad in2 an ‘untouchable/unbeatable’ side. We nid 2 strenghten our squad bt I don’t tink Bernard is wat we nid. We surely nid 1 or 2 top quality Strykaz in d mould of Suarez, Yilmaz, Lewandowski, Dzeko or Jackson Martinez, a world class DMF lyk Fellaini, Gustavo, Matuidi, Pogba or Gonalons, 1 reliable CBs RB, LB and Julio Cesar. But if U ask me, I’ll say 4 dis summer, Wenger should get Suarez (£50M), Matuidi or Gustavo (£15M) and Cesar(£2-4M) and maintain d current defence as our defence will suffer less pressure wit d presence of a DMF enforcer and a biting attack. Oda reinforcements can come in subsequent summers where average quality n less reliable players lyk Ramsey, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Diaby, Giroud, Mertesacker n Fabianski will b flushed and replaced wit top quality. Arsenal should parade top world class players n nt averagers if we want 2 b invincible once agn mehnnn …COYG!!!
