Should Manchester United complete this £38m double-swoop?

|

Leighton BainesManchester United’s performance on opening day left very little to be desired. Still, that won’t stop the clamour for David Moyes to make new signings.

A brace from both Robin Van Persie and Danny Welbeck saw of a dejected Swansea City side and set United up for what should be another season of success.

The Red Devils looked like a potent force moving forward, boasted a strong midfield and a rigid defense. But the Premier League season is long and with United looking to compete on all fronts, building a well-rounded squad with plenty of strength in depth, is the order of the day.

That’s why people want to see further additions to this Manchester United side. They want to feel safe in the knowledge that the Swansea City game wasn’t a one-off.

Who United can look to bring in is a different matter. David Moyes has already failed in his attempts to sign Thiago Alcantara and Cesc Fabregas. Perhaps it’s time for the former Everton man to look a little closer to home?

That’s exactly what Moyes appears to be doing. According to The BBC, United have made a £28m bid for two current Everton stars.

The men in question are Everton’s left-back Leighton Baines and their defensive-midfielder/defender/striker, Marouane Fellaini. The Toffees are believed to value Baines at £18m, whilst the Belgium bruiser would cost more than £20m (Source: The Star). Perhaps David Moyes could use his old connections to help speed up the negotiations?

If both deals went through, that would be £38m’s worth of transfer action from Manchester United. That’s would surely be enough to satisfy the fans.

More importantly, it would surely be enough to set up the club for more success over the course of the next 9-or-so months.

Both players would be able to make an immediate impact at Old Trafford. Fellaini could well go on to be a replacement for Paul Scholes, whose tough-tackling and pin-point accuracy will be sorely missed. The Belgian’s technical grace and aerial threat only add to a catalogue of beneficial qualities.

Then there’s Leighton Baines, who is among the best full-backs in world-football. Whilst he seems happy at Everton, he does look to be destined for a move to a bigger club.

The two of them joining Manchester United together would put the club in a very strong position for the rest of the season. With that in mind, let’s hope David Moyes can seal the deals!

What’s your take? Would you like to see Manchester United go in for Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini?

38 million is nothing.I’m a utd fan and I would notbe happy with only those 2 players after all we did get promised a marquee signing. This window has been a disgrace tbh

  • J.D. says:

NO, he should move for Erik Lamela and Daniele de Rossi. They would come at the same price and they are arguably much better options than Baines and Fellaini, IMO.

Im really happy that utd are going for a 38m double swoop but should the deal done utd will be a little stronger team than then.10m rated youngster luke shaw is also an option.reports claiming that modric is highly in favour of a devil move, utd should get this deal done. These four will be great additions since the transfer window is nearing to a close…………………… Hence utd should hurry!!!!!!.

  • Yeboah kwadwo says:

Pls hurry n go 4 d two everton duo we d fans cant wait to see fellani in a red shirt. He wil b a grt addition

  • Pug says:

Fellaini wasn’t the player he was in the game against united at any other part of last season, if he can play like that week in week out he’d be a great signing, baines on the other hand is a total waste of money, Evra is far from finished and fabio and buttner have 5 years on baines. Spend the baines money on a more consistant winger. We’ve been teased all summer with names like Ronaldo and fabregas and we are now talking about players with very little or no big tournament experience and are certainly not world class. They would be nothing short of desperation signings. We’ve lost the greatest manager of all time, pay hundreds a year in tickets and shirt purchases and we deserve better than average players. Our squad is full of very good young players, balance that with world class names like ozil or Ronaldo added to our already phenomoninal forward line and we can all get excited and will have a season to remember.

  • Ipinko says:

I dont c man u within top 4 if they fail to sign these players.go get falaini, baine and modric and stop waisting ur time.
