Gonzalo HiguainEarlier this summer, the internet was all abuzz with speculation surrounding Arsenal and Stevan Jovetic.

The Fiorentina forward had enjoyed a name-making season and would have been a welcome addition at the Emirates. Unfortunately, no deal was ever secured and eventually the speculation just stopped.

That’s the way that the transfer market works. Club’s change their loyalties extremely quickly.

Though the dwindling interest in Jovetic may have disappointed Arsenal fans, it did allow Real Madrid ace Gonzalo Higuain to waltz into the picture.

I’d argue that argue that Higuain is better than Jovetic in almost every fashion (admittedly, it’s not really a fair comparison). Jovetic may have superior technical ability, but he lacks Higuain’s goal-scoring prowess, his experience and his superb ability to link up with the midfield.

Both players are extremely mobile and both look like good fits for the Premier League. But Gonzalo Higuain is further along in his development than his Serie A rival.

Interestingly enough, a third striker has entered the picture. Last week Arsenal lodged a £30m bid for Liverpool’s troublesome Uruguayan forward, Luis Suarez.

This has excited and disgusted Arsenal fans in equal measure. For all his talent, Suarez comes with a lot of baggage. Indeed, the Gunners could damage their reputation should they secure a deal for the Liverpool ace.

The most disappointing thing about the Suarez link, however, is that it has pulled the Gunner’s attention away from Gonzalo Higuain. What happened with Stevan Jovetic now seems to be happening with this Argentinian forward.

The Star recently went as far as to claim that the Gunner’s ‘deal’ for Gonzalo was dangling on a ‘knife edge’. At one stage a £22m deal looked certain to go through, but by delaying, Arsenal have seriously damaged their chances.

And for what? Luis Suarez, a player who could serious damage the club’s reputation.

Gonzalo Higuain doesn’t come with any of the baggage that Suarez offers. He has a proven goal-scoring record and seven years worth of experience at a top club that competes in the Champions League.

At just £22m, he’d also be significantly cheaper than Suarez. It just doesn’t make sense for Arsenal to switch targets mid-stream this time. Higuain is the real deal and it’d be foolish for Arsene Wenger to damage the chances of signing him by chasing shadows.

Here’s hoping that he gets his priorities right.

What’s your take? Who would you rather see at Arsenal, Luis Suarez or Gonzalo Higuain?

First of all Arsenal should act fast for Suarez or Higuain, both are talented players. They should look for a powerful midfielder like Fallaini a defender like Ashley Williams & an experience goal keeper…

Wenger couldn’t go for lewandowski as he has agreed to join bayern Munich and gustavo is terrible but I like Bernard

  • Graham says:

Real are the problem , they keep moving the goal posts so he would never come for that price

  • Ajobe Rasulu says:

Despite his wild behaviours, suarez is a classic strike who would perfectly fit and put an end to arsenal’s goal drought and to me i see him better than higuan if he had changed his behaviours.
