Alvaro VadilloThere was a brief period earlier this summer where it looked as though Andre Villas-Boas would have his eyes turned by the money men at PSG. Luckily, this wasn’t to be the case.

Instead, he’s stayed at White Hart Lane and is now in the middle of what looks to be a very intriguing prospect. Most importantly, he’s making some interesting decisions in the transfer market.

Spurs have already agreed a £17m deal for rugged Brazilian midfielder, Paulinho. That’s a lot of money, though I expect the 24-year-old will prove himself worthy of the investment. He mixes hard-work and graft with Brazilian flair and attacking endeavour. He’s an extremely talented young player and I expect him to take the Premier League by storm.

Tottenham have also spent a lot of time flirting with wantaway Aston Villa striker, Christian Benteke. The big Belgium has already handed in a transfer request and would be a good replacement for either Jermaine Defoe or Emmanuel Adebayor, both of look to be a borrowed time.

As expected however, AVB is looking to revolutionise Spurs from the bottom up. He has an eye for talented young players and may well be on the hunt for a future world-class star this summer.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Tottenham are currently chasing Alvaro Vadillo, a player they dub the ‘new Cristiano Ronaldo’.

Now I’m sure the 18-year-old Real Betis star won’t be happy to be saddled with this particular burden. There’s only one Cristiano Ronaldo and he casts a particularly long shadow.

But I see the comparison that this source is trying to draw. Vadillo likes to run with the ball at his feet, can take players on and has super quick feet. He’s a flair player, who could well develop into something truly special over the next few years.

Whilst he’s certainly not ready for regular first team action in the Premier League, I’m glad to see Spurs competing for these kind of players.

As things stand, Arsenal hold a reputation for cultivating talented young players. Why shouldn’t the same be true for Spurs?

Vadillo wouldn’t exactly be a marquee signing, but he is further evidence that AVB is building something special at White Hart Lane. I’d argue that’s equally as exciting.

What’s your take? Would Alvaro Vadillo be a good addition to this Spurs squad? How long would it take him to break into the first team?
