Should Liverpool swoop for this Dutch League bargain?

Christian EriksenLiverpool have thus far had an interesting summer. Whilst they’ve been extremely active in the summer transfer market, they’ve also made a number of signings that could reasonably be labelled ‘gambles’.

Do we know for sure that Iago Aspas will be able to make the step up to a big club? Whilst he plays with passion and verve, the pressure of playing for Liverpool is immense. Let’s hope he has character enough.

Players like Luis Alberto are even bigger gambles. With this in mind, it’s become increasingly difficult to judge exactly how well the Reds will perform next season. The fans are all clamouring for Champions League football, but it’s not clear that Brendan Rodgers can deliver this just yet.

I think that’s why there was so much excitement surrounding the potential signing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, a free-scoring Armenian midfielder with a big reputation. He was the kind of signing who could take Liverpool to the next level next season.

Unfortunately, Mkhitaryan ended up signing for Borussia Dortmund and the Reds are left without that magical midfield signing.

But it’s certainly not too late. Speculation surrounding long-term Liverpool target Christian Eriksen seems to be increasing once more.

Speaking recently, the Danish ace made it clear that he’s ready to quit his current surroundings and find a new home: I want to go to a club at which everything is bigger than it is at Ajax. As yet there is no concrete interest from such a club.” (Source: Inside Futbol)

Despite a downturn in fortunes over the last half-decade or so, I’d argue that Liverpool would provide a suitably ‘big’ environment for Christian Eriksen.

As for the Danish International himself, he’s a real star. His all action midfield performances have won him comparisons to Liverpool star Steven Gerrard (who else?). He certainly has excellent vision, a great passing range and willingness to get forward and support the attack.

He’s also capable of chipping in with a few goals from time to time. At just 21-years-old, Eriksen is already remarkably far along his development path.

That’s why it makes sense for Brendan Rodgers to target him now. He’s got a single year left on his Ajax contract and is thus available for a bargain price. If Liverpool wait until next summer, there’ll be plenty of clubs circling the player looking to sign him on a free transfer.

The Reds missed out on Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Let’s hope the same doesn’t happen with Christian Eriksen.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool make a move for Christian Eriksen?

seems like we are having to rely on cash from Suarez sale to get new signings in, I would take Eriksen but I am not Brendan Rodgers. I am pretty sure if Suarez stays then we wont be signing anyone .

    • Albert Hagan says:

That’s what its looking like.I think we have to sell before we buy. If you look at ins and outs we have spent nothing. We could get Christian and Toby for the amount we were reportedly gonna spend on myckhi.I don’t know y they are taking so long in getting dis done already.

  • Joe says:

Rogers was given 20m to spend this summer.
And he has only use 3m out of that 20m.
Aspas, alberto, mignolet where bought from the sales of other players like carrol, jonjo, etc

  • Herbie says:

Achieving Champions League position cost money. We cannot do it by stalling and haggling to get good players on the cheap. In the long term, if money is spent ,wisely, it will pay back dividends in £££££ and joy. We’ve got to spend money to make money. Maybe FSG is too coy to admit they can’t afford it.
