Would Arsenal signing Wayne Rooney be a victory for Manchester United?

Wayne RooneyThe back and forth surrounding Wayne Rooney and Manchester United must be extremely distracting for the David Moyes, the club as a whole and the players.

The longer these transfer sagas continue, the more poisonous they become. At some stage, it will boil over and damage United’s preparations for next season. After all, how can Moyes make plans for next year if he doesn’t know if one of his main men will be a part of his squad?

What’s more, a sense of unrest may begin to grow among players, who can’t be happy that all the attention is on Wayne Rooney, when it should really be focused on getting ready for the coming season.

David Moyes tried to put a wrap on the situation last week. He met with Wayne, before insisting to the Press that the English centre-forward would not be on his way out this summer. That’s as may be, but these claims haven’t stopped the flow of speculation surrounding the 27-year-old.

With only two years left on his contract, Rooney is in a position of power. He can see out the rest of his contract and move on a free in a couple of summer’s time, or force a move away to another top club.

There would likely be a host of interested clubs, were he to look to move on. As The Mirror note, both Arsenal and Chelsea are keeping tabs on Rooney’s situation and have not been put off by Moyes’ statement last week.

It’s my personal feeling that it’s time for Manchester United to cash in. Wayne clearly has a restless soul. There’s no point staying at Old Trafford if he’s going to kick up a fuss every two years.

If he’s unhappy at the club, he should move on (though he may be disappointed to find out that most other clubs wont pay him similar wages).

United would take a chunk out of their weekly wage-bill and have a healthy wad of cash t invest in another striker (Robert Lewandowski perhaps?)

If they keep hold of him, they run the risk of losing him next summer for a smaller fee, or the year after that on a free. This would be a big mistake.

As for the interested parties, I think Wayne would be a good fit at Arsenal (if he’s willing to take a pay-cut). For all his faults, Rooney is still an excellent striker and could help lead the North London club to silverware next year.

United, on the other hand, will move on regardless. His exit may even make the club stronger.

What’s your take? What does the future hold for Wayne Rooney?

Wayne rooney just as he has been a terrific asset for Manchester United ?????? years will leave a gaping hole that may take Moyes some seasons ???? fill up considering they just lost their iconic Sir alex. On ?????? other hand Arsenal will become a terrific force by landing him, this is why I don’t see Moyes allowing him leave.
