Why on earth have Arsenal not made a bid for this La Liga ace?

Gonzalo HiguainEarlier this summer, we heard a great deal about Stevan Jovetic and the likelihood that he would join Arsenal before the transfer window closed. Time rolled by and soon enough the rumours petered out. Nowadays Jovetic isn’t even in the conversation.

Arsenal fans may well be starting to wonder if the same is about to happen with Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain.

Many column inches have already been spent linking the Argentine forward with a move to North London. I’ve lost count of the number of times that Higuain has purportedly ‘turned up for his medical’. It looks like it’s all nonsense.

Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez has poured scorn over the speculation surrounding his player:

“We don’t want Higuain to leave. What’s more, no-one from Arsenal has come to us and made us any offers at all for him. There are no offers on the table.” (Source: The Mirror)

Now this could merely be gamesmanship on the part of Perez. He could be trying to bring other parties into the bidding, or trying to force Arsenal to finally stake their claim in the player. Or, he may be being truthful – perhaps Madrid are keen to keep hold of Higuain after all.

Still, I find this latter option hard to believe. Higuain has stated his desire to leave Real Madrid already this summer. Whilst he’s served the club well over the last seven years, it does look like the time is right for Higuain to move on.

What is most surprising, however, is that the Gunners are yet to launch a bid to capture the 25-year-old. Shouldn’t Arsene Wenger have sprung into action by now?

Arsenal were poor last season. Achieving a top four finish was a close run thing – Tottenham were the better team for large swathes of the year. The hope is there that Arsene Wenger will use money from the club’s recent commercial deals to bring in top quality players who can lead the Gunners onwards to silverware.

I can only hope that stagnation hasn’t set in. Arsenal need to keep moving forward.

Higuain is thought to have a £23m price-tag. Now that the Gunners are flush with cash, they can afford to pursue him.

I’m not sure why they’re leaving it so late, but I can only hope that the club gets its act together soon.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal look to make a deal happen for Gonzalo Higuain?

Arsenal is a club that loves every player but can not afford to buy them!

  • Azeez Lawal says:

It looks like Arsenal is looking for buy one get one free player.

  • glenn cane says:

Wenger will not buy. He pretends to buy, but his arrogance seems to prevent him. He is incapable of buying. I have gone from loving this man to loathing him and if he stays things will only get worse because we do not buy class players, just Girouds who are totally out of their depth.

Arsenal should please sign Real Madrid forward we need profit and trophy this season, for us to achieve trophy we need to sign experience players mostly strikers

    Relax, it’s done, he’s a Gooner!

  • Dog says:

WTF is the delay with signing players.
They should be training together from next week to be a cohesive unit.
23 million for Higuain is good business.

No more bullsh1t and no more chances for Wenger!

Would madrid grant the two parties..arsenal and higuain to have a talk and even go as far as agreeing personal terms if madrid havnt recieved an offer? I dont think so. What is going on behind that great wall? I think time will tell. But it would be useless to chase a striker(suarez)we know we cant sign if madrid are bidding with us, and cool on higuain that apparently wants to make the switch and would come cheaper(although suarez would be my prefered option if i was P.S.G or MONACO)

Hi guys and like yourselves i also cant understand why we are taking so long.Higuain is right up there with the very best of the worlds striker’s .We should be putting 25 mil on the table and then doing the same for Cesc, then add Ceasor and now that Vermaelen is hurt buy Williams ,We could push these deals through for around 65 million and they would then set the spine of our team for the next 3/4 years, along with 3/4 of our under 21s from last year and the team that had the 2nd best defence and were the league’s 3rd top scorers,we could challenge on all fronts. If we miss out due to PENNY PINCHING ONCE AGAIN THEN WE ARE A SAD SAD CASE.

  • Cordel says:

If rumors are to be believed then money on the part of arsene wringer is not the problem why the deal isn’t wrapped up because as you can see arsenal have bid 30 million pound for suarez and contemplating 35; these figure far exceeds the market price for higuain

  • Ian Hawthorne says:

They should have bought him ages ago and he would be playing with the other players on the Asian Tour and getting to know them. The fact that we are pissing about changing from one player to another is going to leave us well off the pace when the season starts and leave a lot of faithful supporters feeling cheated and deluded

  • gunner69 says:

So much paper talk flying about. Is it me or is everyone going mad. The word is out , that the gunners are flush ! So RM & every other club out there are trying to screw us over. When do arsenal ever shout about our targets! CAZORLA , MONREAL for example !

  • panther says:

Arsene and the Arsenal board make me sick! Everything with these stupid stubourn people, is a long drawn out process. I gave up my season ticket the summer they sold Fabregas and Nasri, because I can’t see the logic in what Arsene is doing. I know Wenger is making money by buying un known cheap players and selling them on for profit, but thats no good to the fans. Wenger seems to get a warped thrill out of regurgitating his teams.
