Luis Suarez

Arsenal’s link to Uruguayan trouble-maker, Luis Suarez seems to have divided fans. Unsurprisingly, many North Londoners don’t want to see a man with such a spotty history pull on an Arsenal shirt. The other half would see it as a step forward for the club.

The fact that Arsenal are being linked so strongly to Suarez, is perhaps a sign of the club’s desperation. Last year, was not a banner year for the Gunners. Indeed, the last half-decade or so, has been largely forgettable.

Since selling Robin Van Persie, Arsenal have been desperately short upfront. Olivier Giroud was brought into plug the gap, but has been found lacking. Sure he found the back of the net a few times last season, but he’s an extremely limited footballer.

The Gunners are used to having strikers with bags of technical ability, craft and endeavour. They’re used to seeing forwards like Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry produce a moments of magic, or a winning goal from nowhere. Luis Suarez can provide this, Olivier Giroud cannot.

The Gunners are thought to have lodged a £30m bid for the striker, but may have to add another £10m to the deal to make something happen. (Source: The BBC)

Even those with a deeply ingrained dislike of Luis Suarez must understand why he provides an appeal for a club like Arsenal.

On the other hand, you wouldn’t exactly get a sense of pride every time he jogged on to the Emirates’ pitch. The biting incidents are bad enough, but there’s no excuse for racism of any kind. Whatever else he does in his career, his copybook will always remain blotted.

Still, Arsenal can’t afford to be squeamish. If the Gunners don’t adopt a ruthless streak, they may well end up going another half-decade without winning anything.

Signing Luis Suarez could stop the slump and give Arsenal a chance at doing something big next season. For this reason alone, he’d be worth the investment.

Morality isn’t likely to put a stopper on any potential deal for Luis Suarez. The two most likely deal-dampeners are: Arsenal’s unwillingness to pay market-price for the striker and Luis Suarez’s distrust of the English Press (things would surely only get worse for Luis were he to move to London).

This combines to make a deal very unlikely. Still, should one happen, Arsenal fans would be foolish to complain.

What side are you on? Would you like to see Luis Suarez at the Emirates, or should the club be chasing more reputable strikers?

  • Ian Hawthorne says:

Why are we chasing players like the disgraceful Suarez who Liverpool would NEVER sell to us when we have players like Fellaini and Higuain who WANT to come to us

Answer = so we can pretend we TRIED to spend the money

  • Raymond says:

I support the transfer of Suarez to Arsenal. Make it happen Wenger.

  • Bryan says:

Be a waste of money, would sooner we sign Higuain, think he’s better player anyway.
Suarez is an animal, don’t want the likes of him at Arsenal.
Would be great if we actually signed any decent player but as usual the board are fluffing about so we will probably miss out but hey they don’t care about Arsenal or the supporters, there just getting richer

    • Mubarak says:

If Wenger and the Arsenal board are not kidding as usual, Suarez is a strong material for arsenal’s beautiful football which currently misses a good aggressive finisher like Suarez. I support the deal and do not fool the supporters.

  • Mark says:

Bring Suarez in, if any manager will settle a player and cut out the BS it’s Wenger. Never mind Higuain, Suarez is proven in the prem league and will bang in goals with the amount of chances we create.
    Fellaini/Arteta
    Wilshere,
    Cazorla, Theo and Fabregas/Podolski/Chamberlain
    Suarez…

    Goals goals goals

  • jordangooner says:

Suarez would be great for Arsenal. RVP had big problems when we signed him, Wenger sorted him out, Wenger knows how to handle great player,Suarez would be a great fit for Arsenal.

  • ken says:

you make me laugh why would suarez go to arsenal so he can have the same as van persi nothing

    • jordangooner says:

This season we will win something, I sm confident, United until the current run of sucess waited 26 years,Spurs hsve not won the league for 51 year, Crap clubs like Man City and Chelsea only won when they spent big money. Arsenal will spend big and win like all the other losers.

    • Bryan says:

So he can at least play in the CL because he ain’t getting that at Liverpool is he

  • Segun says:

I support wenger in signing suarez

  • ken says:

arsenal are a club who have a great support but owners who are happy with spending very little just enough so they get top four and fill there own pockets,i thought the prices for a season ticket for anfield are over priced arsenal are just taking the piss out of there loyal support the money they make they should be fighting for the league every year. wenger has done so well with the pocket money they spend each season

  • Segun says:

Becos hewill bring back ur hope

  • yomi says:

He is a gud player and a match winner and he can create magic lik van p,henry but my problem wit him is wil he be able to cope,he said one of the reason he want to leave england is because he is tried of life dere and cumin to a rival club it wil really tel on him and secondly he stil has up to 6matches banned base on wht he did last season.my advise for wenger is that if he is serious about buyin a gud player dis season let him up higuine and fellani bid and one cntre denfeder and a gud keeper since the moni is dere,he shld forget abt surez.gooner for life

  • Chris says:

Some people are just ridiculously stupid wit their comments.will anybody be foolish to allow some players to leave without replacement?calm down deals will surely be made. And we all know that clubs are tryin to inflate player prices because they think we desperately need players.madrid anybody?

  • Alex says:

    Suarez is good for arsenal

  • Previgo says:
