Should Liverpool be excited about signing this £3.5m Spanish ace?

Brendan Rodgers LiverpoolIn some ways, it’s an exciting time to be a Liverpool fan. They’re the one Premier League club (except maybe Manchester City), who have really gone for it in this summer’s transfer window.

Brendan Rodger’s arrival at the club brought with it a wave of good feeling. Unfortunately, it was followed up with a string of poor performances on the pitch and a continued slump that has Liverpool fans pulling their hair out.

But good old Brendan seems to have things under control. He’s been accruing a long list of transfer targets, making sensible bids and bringing new  players who could help to improve the squad.

Since the transfer window re-opened, we’ve seen Liverpool finalise deals for Simon Mignolet, Iago Aspas, and Luis Alberto.

Still, some fans can’t help themselves. Despite these steps forward for the club, some still feel that this calibre of player wont improve the squad enough to make a real difference.

These same individuals probably won’t be overly happy with the news that Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign a £3.5 Spanish prodigy. But it would be foolish to turn your nose up at this one.

The player in question is Valencia’s Pedro Chirivella, a 17-year-old ace who has garnered comparisons to stars like Sergio Busquets. This is mostly due to his hard-working nature, his love for a tackle and his expert reading of the game (even at a young age).

But Pedro is also adept going forward. He’s got a great engine, loves to break into the box and can cause real issues for defenders. This young star may well blossom into an excellent all round midfielder. Liverpool are getting in on the bottom floor here – signing him for just £3.5m could be a real coup.

The Mirror suggest the fee could be even lower, should the Reds win a tribunal concerning the player’s future.

Of course, Chirivella will not have any impact on the Reds first-team for at least the next two-three years. But this is not the basis on which every transfer should be judged.

In Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool have a progressive manager, with a good knowledge of young players and an eye for a bargain. It’s time to let him do his thing and to start planning for what’s to come. The ‘now’ isn’t so great, but the future just might be.

What’s your take? Are you excited to see Pedro Chirivella join Liverpool?

Happy to see they are going for top youth but not even thinking about how good he may be coz most dont make it.

think it’s a good signing judging by how well he’s thought of in spain. it’s been a while since we signed a defensive midfield youth prospect too. still think it would be wise to sign a dm to compete with lucas, but given chirivella could be ready in two seasons, we could buy a slightly older dm for a lower price. come on you reds!

Liverpool have barely spent anything yet, what with money bought in from player sales.

The player we have brought in are squad players. We’ve improved what we have on the bench, not what we have out on the pitch. Bit difficult getting excited about hardly spending anything (which will become a negative spend once Ince is sold and Spearing goes to Bolton) and we’ve improved our bench slightly.

How nice of you to assume that I won’t be “overly happy” with the signing of Pedro just because I look at the players we’ve bought with a more realistic perspective than most.

I may not be “excited” about signing a 17-year-old wonderkid (that would be foolish because we are spending money on potential that may or may not happen), but I am definitely happy we’ve signed him just for how highly-rated he is and what he may become.

We have all the players in the world for the fucking future ;-( Rodgers has said he has bought in the squad fillers ;-( Now where supposed to be buying QUALITY MARQUEE PLAYERS TO MAKE THE FIRST TEAM STRONGER.YET ALL THAT ARE FANS HEAR IS RUMOURS ;-( And THE PLAYERS RUMOURED AREN’T EVEN THAT GOOD EITHER ;-(
Henry Ayre are fobbing off are clubs fans, normal clubs like Swansea & Southampton are buying a better quality of player, which is damaging are clubs chances of even getting into the TOP 10 next premier league season ;-( DISGUSTED IN HENRY ( Who is only interested in getting the wage bill down ) And ayre ( Who couldn’t negotiate his way out of a paper bag ) THIS COMMITTEE NEEDS TO BE COMMITTED ALSO ;-( BIG TROUBLE AT LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB ;-(

You really have issues don’t you. Anger is a burden dear. Get over yourself. Liverpool don’t need fans like you-whining and moaning all the time.

  • steve says:

how many more players for the future are we going to get, surely we are spending to much on this type of player, no disrespect to them but we need to concentrate more on quality first teamers

    BR IS KING

    • Dean jones says:

Your an idiot if you think BR is king ;-( Because not getting decent first team players in,is going to cost him his job next summer.Because with the B team players he’s buying, where not even going to get into the TOP 10.And this idiotic committee is a joke for buying the squad players first,it should always be first team players ( Due to the fact, first team players are going to COST MORE MONEY LATER )

      • Anthony Grenfield says:

Heres a suggestion, rather spend your time cutting the lawn rather than spewing out your negativity all day long.
