Yaya SanogoArsene Wenger is notorious for scouting and acquiring young French talent. With the official signing of 20 year old French Striker Yaya Sanogo, it seems he is up to his old antics again.

Wenger may have become aware of Sanogo when he joined Co Les Ulis, the same academy that produced the Arsenal legend Theirry Henry. After just a year with this academy, at the young age of 13, he signed his first contract with French league side Auxerre.

Sanogo is not shy of the big stage either. He has just under 50 international caps with France’s youth teams all the way from U16-U21. His skill has been noted by top clubs across Europe for the past couple years, but injury woes have not helped his case. A double break of his leg in 2010 forced him to miss a season.

His goal-scoring record is phenomenal, netting 16 goals in just 24 games with the Auxerre professional team. The only flaw in those stats is that the 24 games span out over 4 years.

Arsenal will look for him to add depth as striker for the first team. His large, powerful body will be tough to handle for any defender, but he needs more experience. A few Capital One Cup games are definitely an option down the road and depending on how he fares in those, a mid-season loan is likely.

His signing will add much needed depth and skill, seeing as Arsenal only have one other notable striker in Oliver Giroud. Wonder kid Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski are able to play down the center but are not solely strikers.

Sanogo’s career in the Premier league has potential to be world class. With some luck he may be a consistent contender for the top spot on Arsenal’s roster in years to come. If he is able to stay healthy and is able to adapt to the physical style of play defenders will be using against him, Arsene Wenger may have found himself a diamond in the rough.
