Edin DzekoEarlier this summer, many column inches were spent discussing the prospect of Christian Benteke moving to White Hart Lane. Unfortunately, the big Belgium forward seemed to have a (money-driven) change of heart and ended up committing to Aston Villa through a new contract.

Since then, Valencia’s Roberto Soldado has entered the conversation. The Spanish forward is one of La Liga’s deadliest strikers and would be an asset for just about any Premier League team.

The 28-year-old forward is just about a perfect fit for Tottenham. Most importantly, he’s a natural goal-scorer. He’s used to scoring 25+ goals-per season. He also works hard, positions himself well and can hold the ball up.

Whilst he’s not the strongest in the air, he has good technical ability and grace. He’s a classy player and he comes with a big price-tag. It’s thought that Tottenham have bid £22.5m, which is still £3.5m below the player’s release clause. Valencia won’t sell for a penny less.

Given the current situation and all the stalling, it makes sense that Andre Villas-Boas and co. start weighing up all their other options.

I’d argue that there’s one man out there, within Tottenham’s price-range, that suits the club’s needs better than Roberto Soldado. This man is Manchester City’s much maligned striker, Edin Dzeko (who The Mirror has linked to Spurs)

Like Soldado, Dzeko is a proven goal scorer. Whilst at Wolfsburg, Dzeko scored 85 goals in 142 games. Last season, he scored 15 times, despite being utilised mostly as a substitute.

Manchester City have almost always favoured the likes of Sergio Aguero and (the now absent) Carlos Tevez. The arrivals of attacking talent like Stevan Jovetic and Alvaro Negredo will do little to help Dzeko’s confidence going into the new season.

The obstacles to his success at City have never been bigger. Perhaps it’s time for him to start considering his future.

With so much attacking talent at the club, I wouldn’t be surprised if City were prepared to sell. There could be an opportunity for Spurs to nip in and snap him up (as they have done with Emmanuel Adebayor in the past).

Thankfully, Dzeko is a much harder worker than Adebayor and must be desperate to move to a club where he’d be first choice. Unlike Soldado, he has Premier League experience.

Given his prowess in front of goal and his poor luck at Eastlands, I’d say he deserves another shot at a top club like Tottenham.

What’s your take? Who would be better for Tottenham, Roberto Soldado or Edin Dzeko?

Well if GB goes, then maybe buy both – Adebayor could be on his way anyway.

    Bring back Berbatov.

I seem to remember an AVB interview when he said that he likes 3 strikers in the squad. 2 experienced, one up-and-coming. Whilst Saldado & Dzeko would fit the 2 experienced strikers, I can’t see it Think it will be Soldado & Defoe. Up-and-coming? Who knows, but not Harry Kane.
