Whilst I don’t agree with all the negativity that currently surrounds David Moyes, even his most ardent supporters must surely view the Cesc Fabregas saga as a mistake. I’m sure Manchester United began negotiations with the best of intentions. Maybe they thought Fabregas was tired of playing second fiddle? Maybe they thought Barcelona was a little strapped for cash following their splurge on Neymar earlier this summer?
Either way, their bids for Fabregas were always doomed to fail. His connections with Arsenal are just too strong. I’m sure he still holds grudges against United players from his time in the Premier League. Unlike Robin Van Persie, he doesn’t seem to be a man that’s willing to forgive and forget.
The Dutchman was able to do this, because Manchester United provided him with a chance for success. Cesc has already enjoyed success at the Nou Camp and must be hungry for more. In particular, he must be keen to prove that he’s capable of making it at his boyhood club, despite competition from big names like Xavi and Andres Iniesta.
It comes down to this: Barcelona aren’t interested and neither is the player himself. So why have Manchester United wasted so much time on Cesc Fabregas?
It’s time to move on and start looking at other more viable targets. According to The Metro, United are ready to switch their attentions to Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan. They even suggest that he’s been given a ‘glowing reference’ by his former team-mate, Shinji Kagawa.
The 22-year-old German midfielder is among the best players in his age group, with excellent technical ability, attacking flair and work-rate. He’s also willing to track back, put in tackles and support his team-mates.
He’s got just two years left on his Dortmund contract, so United may be in a position of power when it comes to negotiating. Dortmund have also brought in Henrikh Mkhitaryan, so may well be willing to let another midfielder go. It’s thought that they could snap him up for £20m.
That’s a lot of money, but Gundogan’s stature in the game justifies that kind of investment. He’s a great all-rounder, who will add serious depth to Manchester United’s midfield. He could well be United’s missing link. What’s more, he’s considerably cheaper than Fabregas would be.
What’s your take? Would Ilkay Gundogan be a good alternative to Cesc Fabregas?

Moyes is going after Fabregas so strongly because he is a brilliant playmaker and great midfielder but he has the experience to pass onto our younger players. Now that scholes is away from united, (short term), we need the odd old head in a young side. United have always bought in older players for their experience aswell as their skill when needed. Blanc, Larson, Owen are just 3.
Fellani had on half great season, he is not utd material, dont know why everyone wants him, fab is a touch of class, arsenal havent been the same without him, he is only 26, and massive experience, he is the right man for utd, he will link up perfect with RVP and welbeck!
Ikay gundogan is a gud player that looks to be on d up.I am shocked dat moyes is still wasting time adding fellaini to d squad to give him time to blend. Ikay plus fellaini and kip rooney weda happy or not and united will challenge for d trophy.
Fellani is not utd material!! One half good season is all he had and everyone raving bou him ! He will cost a fortune aswell, turn out to be another andy carrol!! Fabrigas is perfect for utd. Massive experience, only 26 aswell!! Arsenal aven been the same without him!!
No, let’s see first Fabregas. Another attempt 35million pound
Moyes shld 4get abt fabregas its a waste of time, he shld go 4 players that are avaliable not players that are not Gundogan and fellaini are gr8 so he shld try and sign them. I dont know y moyes z foused on his preseason rather dan signin players
Man u should waste no tym in bringing gundogan, and forget about fabregas if he/barcelona does not want 2 agree terms.
Fab and fellanni are best option for united this season moyes give us the best in u
I beliv GDN is a best alternative.
David must forget is past which is everton this is united d champion he should stop wasting time in signing for fab go for anothet better players
the frst tym i saw gundogan ws 2 season before,,and wish he would play for united and yet moyes instead of grab his man,,he stil pushing for the red light of fabby..he is a massive player but we cnt get him..if moyes is sure n wnt to add new faces, why instead to cash on gundogan n fellain then we call it a day..lets stop dreaming abt,modric,cr7,bale or fabby coz it aint gonna happen…moyes cant you see that your not a 2yr old boy ur 50 nw do ur math man…
man u rly need ikay nomatter what if we wnt to stay put
Moya stop taking we dont have time to wist just about fabregas
yah! DAVID MOYES is wasting his time on CESC but he should look at the best midfielders around! Wh don’t he secure the transfer of Fellani, and go to the best German international Ilkay GUNDOGAN! look at his technical ability, tackle, and helping his team mates infront! We know that Fabrigas is the best midfielder But Fellani and Gundogan are 100 percent better than him! So,MOYES Look at those best alternatives quickly.

Guys pliz how do you all think Dortmond can let Gundogan go after losing Gotze & Kagawa. Impossible. 4me I think we jst buy Fellaini & think about inforcements next season. Gundogan is wastage of time bcoz the deal cannot take place…..
Let 4get abt fab.gundogan is the rightplayer to rplce scholes
What u’re sayin is true cos we need a player who has a great talent like him in our midfield..moyes should put his efforts 2gether n stop wastin our tym n also make us da supporters happy
Please Moyes your ideas for landing fabregas is good but can’t be, lets German International Gundogan be our best solution – the same style of playing is like P. Scholes, the quality of league he plays is similar strong like Premier league. He is strong enough to succeed Scholes in long run than Fabregas. Add then Fellain, no one can stop us to the championship
We waste time to prepare our team due saga of Fabregas & Bale.
