David Villa or Leandro Damiao: who’s a better fit for Tottenham?

Leandro DamiaoAs Tottenham Hotspur have been teetering on becoming established title contenders season-in season-out maybe, could next year be the year when the North London club can actually become a real force?

If you go through the current Spurs side, there are few positions that they could improve on. They have a world class goalkeeper in Hugo Lloris, a good mix of experience and rising talents in defence and a fantastic midfield, which is about to be boosted by the Brazilian prowess of Paulinho.

The one area you could definitely say needs improving or strengthening is in the centre-forward position. At the moment they only have two main out-and-out strikers in Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor. Adebayor has actually been linked with a move to Turkey in the past few days. If that move went through, they would have to purchase one or two more forwards at least.

As the transfer window has officially opened, speculation increases at an uncontrollable rate as always and the two main forwards that Tottenham have been heavily linked with are David Villa and Leandro Damião. They have also been weakly linked with Christian Benteke and Loic Remy, however I can’t see either of them moving to Tottenham.

Could one of these two star players push Spurs to the top?

David Villa (Source: Daily Mail)

Reports have been coming in from Spain, suggesting that the Barcelona forward, Villa, has grown unsettled and would welcome a move away from the Nou Camp. This is especially  true given the addition of wonder kid Neymar. Villa, is now 31-years- old, so should be available at a reasonable price.

If the Spaniard did move to Spurs, I think he would be a terrific acquisition to the squad. He really could provide 20+ goals and alongside man of the moment Gareth Bale (if he stays).

The doubters of this man say that he is 31 and past his peak. My view is that he is a natural born finisher. He has proven himself at Valencia, Barcelona and for Spain. A massive name like David would really boost the club’ss reputation and keep pushing them forcefully onwards and upwards.

Leandro Damião

On the other hand they could go for the big Brazilian, Leandro Damião. In comparison to David Villa, Leandro has youth on his side as he is only 23 and has his whole career ahead of him. I know less about Leandro but they are both clearly different types of player as the Brazilian is a tall centre-forward, with a little more technical ability. Spurs are obviously fond of the tall, strong strikers, as in the past they have had Crouch, Les Ferdinand and Adebayor etc.

If I had to choose, it would be a really tough decision to make, but I would take a slight gamble on Damião as he can hold the ball up more and then bring the likes of Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon, Moussa Dembele and Clint Dempsey into play.

What do you think?

Damiao for me! Villa is decent but his age is against him and don`t really see him as a long term solution

Why not both!!? Even if Adeybayor AND Defoe stay, I would be happy with a strike force of Damiao, Villa, Defoe and Adeybayor…..If defoe and ade want to stay and fight fdor their place then let them! With Europa, carling and FA cup games everyone will get chances…..all depends on the wage bill though I suppose

Villa. Damiao would’ve been brilliant when we were playing two flying wingers with VDV in behind, speed power and heading ability to get on the end of a ball. Now we need someone to make the runs that unpick defences and the quick feet to hit in from tight angles because now teams set up to defend deep against Spurs. So Villa every day.

Agree with the above , the more I think about this the more I believe villa would be a better acquisition – leandro hasn’t been in any sort of good form since the Olympics , also villa will be looking to play in what will probably be his final WC , meaning he will not be content on sitting on the bench and will be out to show that he can still score goals .

Villa is Spain’s all time leading goal scorer. It speaks for itself

Based on experience and finishing, it has to be David Villa. He’s Spain’s ultimate legend, he will be Jermain Defoe’s successor. I still think we have reason to keep Adebayor as a super sub, as Villa and Bale take up the striking roles and they will hopefully be joined by Christian Benteke or even Soldado. Damiao would suit us better physically, with incredible endurance and pace, just like Paulinho was brought in to do, but score a lot of goals. Tbh im fed up of hearing about Damiao as he has not only led Spurs into thinking we are close to a deal, but he’s also done this to to a few other clubs including a French club. In an ideal world we need them both, but i could cope with just one of them. Keep strong my fellow Spurs fans and have faith in Levy. This year surely, or we might have to get sponsored by Next, ‘next’ season, because there is always next season right? COYS!

For me it has to be Leandro Damiao over Villa although I would love them both. Damiao is only 23 and will be hungry to learn where as Villa had done it all and I wonder if his drive will be the same although I still think he could do a job but would prefer both. What worries me more is Daniel Levy and our past experiences of him dragging his feet again in the transfer window and losing all the best players. Wouldn’t put it past him to do this on purpose so he doesn’t have to spend money.

    both for me

  • steve charlesworth says:

If not both then it would be Damiao – he is big, fast, good in the air and he is keen to earn a WC place and finally he is only 23!
Let’s stop faffing about – even Saints are taking the piss now – lets get him signed now.
