Stevan JoveticFor as long as I can remember (football is all about the short-term), Arsenal have been linked to Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic. Multiple sources have claimed that it’s a ‘Done Deal’ . Then we’ve heard that other club’s have raised their levels of interest. Then we’ve heard that Arsenal are still favourites.

As transfer merry-go-rounds go, this is a rather tedious one. And yet, there’s still the faint after-glow of excitement because Jovetic, the silky-footed Montenegrin, is a talented young footballer. He’s somebody who can get the blood pumping as a result of his technical ability. He’s the kind of player who could propel Arsenal towards something bigger and better.

And isn’t that exactly what Arsenal need? Arsene Wenger is among football’s most scrutinised men. His inability to deliver the goods over the last 8 years have raised countless eyebrows and it’s getting to the stage where his entire reputation is at stake. If he doesn’t make the right signings this summer, things could get pretty ugly.

Steven Jovetic would certainly be a good start in this regard. If Arsenal really are interested, it would be difficult to argue against this transfer.

Speaking recently about Jovetic, Fiorentina’s general manager, Sandro Mencucci said: “…Jovetic wants a new experience and we’ll try to make him happy, but only if a suitable offer comes in.”

According to The International Business Times, the Serie A club values their player at £25m. Unfortunately, Arsenal have only offered £20m. This is typical of Arsene Wenger, who knows how to play the transfer window. If the player is on the hunt for a ‘new experience’, his club would do well to sell.

After all, why would they want to keep somebody who isn’t pulling in the same direction as the rest of the club?

In other words, things are looking pretty good for Arsenal. If they can see out these transfer shenanigans, they could be about to bag a real player. With Olivier Giroud flattering to decieve, he’ll probably waltz straight into the Gunners’ first team.

At just 23-years-old, Jovetic has a big future ahead of him. At the right club, he could kick on and become a genuine star. Let’s hope that the club in question is Arsenal!

What’s your take? Should Arsenal continue to wait it out for Stevan Jovetic, or does Arsene Wenger have other fish to fry?
