Why Tottenham SHOULD add some Brazilian flair to their midfield:

Corinthians Paulinho‘Paulinho’, or Jose Paulo Bezerra Maciel Junior if you’ve got time to spare, is a very exciting young player who has previously attracted links to big clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City and Inter Milan.

And now, according to The Mirror, Tottenham are interested in the Brazilian ace.

Whether or not there’s any truth to these claims, it does seem that he’s ready for a move to a big club. After all, he’s been at Brasileirao club, Corinthians for four seasons now. He’s made a total of 167 appearances for the club (scoring 34 goals) and at 24-years-old, may feel that the time is right for him to move on.

Like most Brazilian midfielders, he’s got outrageous levels of technical ability and flair, but Paulinho is also known athleticism and energy. He’s a box-to-box midfielder, known for his dynamic runs forward and his willingness to get stuck in with his defensive duties.

He can also take a mean set-piece. In many senses, he’s a classy all-round midfielder. Given his quality and versatility, he’d be an asset for most teams. For Spurs, however, he could be a revelation.

There’s nobody quite like Paulinho in this Tottenham squad. Sure you’ve got gifted players like Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon, who have skill to spare, but this Brazilian ace takes the flair factor to the next level.

Best of all, these rumours aren’t just coming out of nowhere. According to Paulinho himself, his agent Giuliano Bertolucci is in London looking to negotiate a move to a Premier League club:

“It’s true my agent is in England at the moment, but I don’t know anything else. I am certain he will tell me what’s going on soon.”

Whilst no specific club is mentioned, Tottenham fans may well have their fingers crossed that he’s on his way to White Hart Lane.

He’d join a midfield that’s already packed-out and full of talented individuals. Despite this, I don’t think he’d struggle for game-time. His unique playing style and versatility should see to that.

If a deal is to happen, it will have to wait until after the Confederations Cup. But given the fact that his agent is already over here, things may move quickly once that competition comes to a close.

And should a deal be struck, Tottenham will be in a very strong position next season.

What’s your take? Should Spurs be in the market for Paulinho?

Well if he is a good midfielder and can move ball around quickly going forward rather than Parker moving ball backwards. I say sign him on . Spurs don’t wast time.

  • ian.Nyar says:

We need midfielders like Modric who can find the gaps quickly movinfg forward. Last season we played lots of balls backwards.

I watched him play for Brazil the last two games.Great player and hope he signs for Spurs.Imagine Sandro, Dembele and Paulinho ? One or two great strikes and yes they can win the P.L.

Really? What a stupid question. Should Spurs be interested in a player that is head and shoulders above what they currently have… I think we’ll go with yes.

Won’t get him though, Real are forcing us to sell them Bale by declaring interest in Paulinho. Very similar to how City got Bellamy and “let us” have Palacios.

  • Ty says:

…because we tend to have lots of possession but precious little creativity.

I watched him great interest becoz spurs interst, being a spurs fan i am not conviced his attacking abilites in those 2games he had played during confiderstion cups.most times he plays side ways except one movement forword in second game.Hope we need attacking midfielder who can break opposition defence..along with good 2 strikers .what u think diego forlan better than david villa

As a Spurs fan of 50 years, I wouldn’t hold my breath, seen too many false reports about who Spurs were supposed to be talking to and have been let down more times than I care to remember and I’m certainly not going to fall for that rubbish again. Will only believe it if and when the club confirms it.

What I can not understand is talking about midfield players when we know what our problems are. Strickers and defenders.why midfielders all the time.
