Why this £20m ace is a perfect fit for Arsenal:

Gonzalo HiguainArsenal have been linked to a lot of forwards already this summer. I still hold that Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain is the most exciting of the bunch.

Steven Jovetic doesn’t have much experience at the very top level. His goal-scoring record isn’t that impressive either.

David Villa scores goals for fun, but he’s now 31-years-old. Given his injury history, he’s certainly not a long-term option.

Wayne Rooney would probably be a nice addition to the team, but the wages he would demand would cripple the club’s current salary structure. It’s also difficult to imagine him in an Arsenal shirt.

Gonzalo Higuain, on the other hand, seems to tick every box.

For a start, he has seven year’s worth of experience playing as a regular for Madrid. Indeed, he’s made 266 appearances for the club.

He’s also managed to score 20+ goals per season on three different occasions (24 goals in 08/09, 29 goals in 09/10 and 26 goals in 11/12). He also only missed out on that distinction this year by a single goal.

Suffice to say, he’s a natural goal-scorer. His record nearly evens out at a goal every other game. How Arsenal could use a player with his profligacy in front of goal.

Best of all, despite all this game time and experience, Higuain is just 25-years-old. In other words, the best years of his career are still ahead of him. He’s currently in a very exciting position.

The good news for Arsenal fans, is that Higuain is free to leave Madrid this summer and the player himself hasn’t ruled out a move to the Emirates: “Arsenal? They would suit me. I’m still young and I have goals.”

He certainly has goals in him! Hyuks!

His father has also spoken about the speculation: “Madrid will want to sell. Juventus or Arsenal? I guess he has spoken with them.”

Now that’s intriguing. At the moment, it’s looking like a two-horse race for his signature. The Mirror speak of a £20m deal and £130k-a-week deal to tempt him to move. For once, however, Arsenal have the funds to make a move happen.

And wouldn’t it be something to see this talented forward leading the line at the Emirates? He’s certainly good enough to kick a bit of life into the club. He may even be good enough to lead them to silverware.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal look to snap up Gonzalo Higuain this summer?

  • Craig says:

Hard to believe all that experience he has and goals he’s scored and still only 25, some of the goals this guy has scored are unbelievable, he’s a deadly finisher, I really don’t understand why wenger takes so long to make a bid, the guy destroying our club with his inactivity and unwillingness to sign top quality, bar cazorla he awesome, but we would have lost out if anyone else showed and interest, that’s the thing wenger looks at price first quality second and that is bad, you get what u pay for, higuian, fellaini, and a keeper, cesar if reports are correct, are all in our reach, if wenger wants to challenge get these players and we will,

  • Roland C Rozario says:

Can we have some ‘closure to some done deals’? ….. lethal players please!

    They need ACTION NOW!!!

  • Drew says:

Agreed, he’s a very, very good player and would be my top choice for attack (along with Dzeko, Gomez) in our price range. But he’ll go for closer to £25mil, no way 20.

  • aminu says:

  • adebayo ogorry says:

  • naked goon says:

I don’t think PROFLIGACY and Higuain belong in the same sentence. Dictionary someone please

  • Bob A says:

I would like to see Higuain at Arsenal but unfortunetly I dont see it happening because I beleive Madrid are keeping him in reserve as Spurs will require him if Bale goes in the opposite direction. As you report says he would be ideal for the Gunners.

  • TonyAFCTucker says:

Signing would definately be a massive step forward and I actually think that would be enough for the forward line to cope with this year with Higgs, giroud, podolski, Walcott, yaya sonogo, chuba akpom coming through the ranks aswell and we’ve also got joell Campbell and not forgetting the rising star Wellington silva ! I honestly think we’ve these selection of strikers and a few more additions ie , another defensive midfielder another central defender and another left winger and we’re be challenging for silverware …
