Is this £7m forward EXACTLY what Liverpool need?

Iago AspasAfter a poor summer of spending (not helped by an unwillingness to splash the cash by the club’s top brass), Brendan Rodgers rather improved his reputation with some smart January additions.

Whilst Liverpool have been disappointing all season long, both Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho, Rodger’s two January recruits, have been effective and impressive.

Sturridge partners expertly with Luis Suarez and has the mobility and confidence in front of goal to lead Liverpool’s front line.

Then there’s Philippe Coutinho, who could go on to be an absolute star – a genuinely world-class footballer. Rodgers may well have got himself a real gem here.

Faith in Rodger’s ability has been restored. If he enjoys yet another decent transfer window, maybe Liverpool can start to get back to their winning ways? The Reds are used to success, Brendan just needs to bring in the players capable of delivering this.

And the signs are good. According to The Mirror, Liverpool have settled on a contract for 25-year-old forward, Iago Aspas. The only thing holding up this deal? Terms have yet to be agreed with his club Celta Vigo. This may seem a little back-to-front to some, but I think Liverpool fans have plenty of reason to be excited.

First up, he’s a player who won’t break the bank. It’s claimed that he could be available for as little as £5.9m. With Liverpool watching the pennies, he’d certainly be a good fit.

He’d also represent good value for money. He offers an appealing mix of energy and flair. When he turns on the after-burners, he’s almost impossible to catch. But he’s also capable of dipping into his bag of tricks and leaving defenders all tied up with some fancy footwork.

After this season, Liverpool fans will be glad to know that Aspas has some goals in him. Back in 2010/11, he found the back of the net 23 times in 35 games. This time round, he hasn’t been quite so prolific, but with midfielders like Steven Gerrard providing him with service, he could well find his feet once again.

He’d probably be the Reds’ third choice striker behind Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, but has what it takes to compete for a starting role.

He may not be a marquee name, but he’s someone that seems to fit so well with Liverpool, so it’s easy enough to get excited.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool complete this deal for Iago Aspas?

Every striker who comes to Liverpool becomes prolific because the service they get from the midfield. So Aspas would do just fine. And if Erickson,Atsu, Luis Muriel with Luis Alberto could join us, 2013/14 will be a very exciting season for us.Should look into the Argentine boy Luciano Vietto too. But of cause, BR knows better!

I’d buy Dzeko from City after the idiot suarez leaves, then sell Allen because he’s just garbage ( Brings nothing to are club ) Rodgers needs a strong tackler & Midfield General also.Address the Defence ( Robinson Flanagan Enrique ) not good enough…

He’s a top player watched him many times over the last few seasons

  • Redsim says:

Aspas could be useful but when Suarez leaves we will need world class replacement. Jackson Martinez looks excellent – he’ll prob cost £30m and he’d come to LFC + We could go for Mkhitaryan or Wanyama

Aspas is a very useful player. He won’t net 29 goals a season, but he is pretty good. I hope he settles down and is able to learn the language – such a vital step. Luis is doing the right thing by leaving – he’s a marked man in England and they would certianly find another excuse to ban him. Sadly, the idea that England is the home of fair play is nonsense – it has become the home of lunatic PC types.
