Is it time for Manchester United to cash-in on this £17m man?

Javier HernandezWhilst Javier Hernandez probably didn’t get the game-time he deserved last-season, the baby-faced assassin is more-or-less universally adored by Manchester United fans. The super-smiley little chappy is also generally regarded as a nice-guy by neutrals.

And that’s the thing, Hernandez is extremely difficult to dislike. He’s a talented footballer yes, but he’s also the anti-Luis Suarez. He’s somebody with his head screwed on nice and tight, who acts like a role-model should. This is something that’s under-valued in the modern game.

Speaking of under-valued, Hernandez only made 22 Premier League appearances last season, 13 of which were as a substitute. It’s telling, however, that he still managed to find the back of the net ten times.

Even without regular football, the 24-year-old is still a natural finisher. This has seen him pegged as a ‘super sub’, but surely he’s much more than this?

And surely with all the furore surrounding Wayne Rooney and his future, there may well be a bigger role for Hernandez next season? It’s my feeling that David Moyes would be foolish not to give him more time. He’s certainly earned it.

And yet, there’s also been some speculation regarding Hernandez’s future. The Mirror recently published an article that claims Juventus are lining-up a £17m move for the United striker this summer.

The Old Lady’s main target is Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain, but should this move fall through, Chicharito will be next in line.

Now don’t get me wrong. £17m is a lot of money. But it’s worth considering how difficult it is to find natural goal-scorers nowadays. I’m not sure that there’s anybody out there who could deliver the same amount of bang-per-buck as Hernandez.

Is there really any £17m-rated player you’d rather see in a United shirt than Hernandez?

For what it’s worth, I’d like to see United go the other way. I’d like to see David Moyes offer Hernandez a proper opportunity to prove himself at Old Trafford. At his age, Hernandez should be about to enter his peak.

It’s not unreasonable to suggest that the young forward’s price-tag may double over the next two-or-three seasons. More importantly, his firepower could deliver further silverware for Manchester United.

With that in mind, wouldn’t it be foolish for David Moyes to send him packing?

What’s your take? Is it time for Manchester United to cut ties with Javier Hernandez, or should they stand by their man?

United will not sell the little pea.Like you said, goal poachers like him are almost impossible to find and are worth much more than 17 million. They are priceless and you have to get lucky to happen upon them.I would much rather see Rooney leave.Has been a great player but its time for him and the club to go their seperate ways.
