Could this signing be even more important than Higuain for Arsenal?

Marouane FellainiAt the time of writing, there’s a lot of speculation concerning Arsenal and Gonzalo Higuain. Numerous sources are reporting that a deal could be announced soon. As such, there’s a chance that by the time this article goes live, the Gunners will have a brand new striker.

But this article doesn’t really concern the Real Madrid man. It concerns a man who I think would represent an even more important signing for Arsenal. That man is Marouane Fellaini.

The big Belgium bruiser had what may be considered his breakthrough season last year. Whilst he’s show-cased his talents in fits and starts before, last year he was able to put together a run of games and show-case all his assets.

And the Everton star has a large number of assets. Let’s start with the qualities that make him slightly different from your typical Arsenal signing: he’s extremely tough, physically imposing and dominant in the air. The Belgium midfielder cuts a colossal figure, made all the more imposing by his ever-expanding hair.

By adding a bit of physicality to their midfield, players like Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta will be afforded more opportunities to shine. This is particularly true of Arteta, who has been stuck in the holding role (where Fellaini would probably end up if he moved to the Emirates). How great would it be to see Arteta further up the pitch supporting the strikers and delivering killer-balls?

But Fellaini isn’t just some workaday, cart-horse of a player. Moyes signed him because he was impressed with his technical ability and versatility (he can play just about anywhere on the pitch). He’s great with the ball at his feet, can take on his man and cause problems for defenses with his quick feet.

He reminds me a bit of Abou Diaby. Here’s hoping he wouldn’t have the same injury issues.

Goal.com claim that Arsenal have already triggered the Belgium’s £22m release clause and are now agreeing personal terms with the player.

If they can pull this deal off, it would be exciting times for the Gunners. I view Fellaini as the final piece of Arsenal’s midfield puzzle. The thought of him playing alongside Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta is extremely exciting indeed. Let’s hope that Arsene Wenger can make it happen.

What’s your take? Could Fellaini be the most exciting signing that Arsenal make this summer?

Fellaini and Higuain …… they are two different players [period]!
Comparisons of the two are unfounded!

    • victomania says:

roland,i tink ur dump, dey are nt comparing d both players togeda,he is trying to gve ur reason y fellaini is more important in d squad dan higuain

    • COYG says:

Not really. Although in some games we lacked the finishing touch, in others we lacked the cover from our midfielders and that was what killed our chances more so than not scoring. this was evident when our strikers spent more time coming back to help out the midfield than staying up to receive. With an addition like Fellaini, stopping players in their tracks, allowing our attackers more freedom- that COULD prove to be a more fruitful acquisition than Higuain. Its not rocket surgery mate. All you had to do was watch a few games and you’d see that

  • Olu Samuel says:

My earnest prayer is that the deal will come to see the daylight. This is the season. God will make it work.

  • thiago says:

dont you dare compare a player like fellaini to a fit diaby.ask yourself this, would fellaini be a starter for france when fit? Never!!!!! I would rather have maxime gonalons.

  • Henry says:

pls wenger we really need both Higuain and Fellani in our term.

  • Victor says:

    Until…….. We need him

  • victomania says:

    thiago u knw nofin

  • agede felix says:

the signing of rooney and cesar will be more important from my point of view

  • victomania says:

no oda 4 is beta dan fellaini in d epl, apart frm yaya toure

  • COYG says:

*when fit…* your argument is flawed

    • thiago says:

in what way is it flawed.we are speaking about the qualities they posses and diaby quality wise is miles ahead of fellaini.plus fellaini has no defined position,DM,CM and behined the striker.why not just sign a player who specialises in DM like maxime gonalons.

  • Uzoma Eboh says:

I will be the happiest Arsenal suppoter if Wenga can finally sign Felani and Gonzalo Huquien. Every body knows that signing this two players will deffinitly bring Arsenal back to the days of their glory.

  • silverjohn says:

higuain & felaini are two difference players, amd arsenalfc need both

  • silverjohn says:

    fellaini 100% better than diaby

  • ste says:

Fellaini is quality I think buying him would give arsenal the player they’ve mist since Vieira left a player who wont be intimidated who is a physical presence he can score goals break play up and the guy wants to play for arsenal for me would be arsenals best buy for a long time and if arsenal bring in 1 player this transfer they can do a lot worse than Fellaini

  • oz says:

Fellaini is a far better player than Diaby. He would be our most imposing midfielder since Vieira, something we havnt had since we last won something and that is not a coincidence. With all the tecnique and movement that we have in midfield apart from little Jack Willeshire we have had no strong physical presence. Look at his display at the back end of the season at the emirates when he sat in front of their defence, we couldnt score, again not a coincidence. I think both Fellaini and Higuain would be brilliant signings, hopefully a defender and a wide man as well. Another sad hopeful gooner? Maybe not this year.

  • Charles says:

So u would rather hav a player who can play one single roll than a utility player? Come on thiago, what more can Gonalons offer arsenal than just DM and is nt even proven on epl but felliani is a proven epl player and can be use anywhere across the midfield, even behind d striker and u said gonalons? To be honest with u i think ur an everton fan for saying that.

  • mike says:

the argument is perfect, arsenal deserves and needs fellani,

  • Chyke says:

Prof. PLEASE get fellani now if he is available.

  • thiago says:

do arsenal look like they need a utility player for midfield roles? We are over stocked in midfield other than defensive which is where gonalons thrives. If fellaini could slot into the defence then he would be useful.plus whats all this about replacing viera,he left 7+ years ago, football and arsenal have moved on,you should move on too.EPL proven? Wat a joke,so was stewart downing. Has any of everton or real madrid even confirmed our interest in any of them? Cos arsenal have not….killing yourselves over rumours…SMH!!!
