Could these THREE AVB targets take Spurs to the next level?

Leandro DamiaoThe amount of speculation that has surrounded Andre Villas-Boas’ future is a little strange, considering he has only been at Tottenham for a year and seriously tarnished his reputation during his time with Chelsea.

Still, we’ve heard a lot about interest from cash-rich Paris Saint-Germain. This, I think, would be a strange move. Whilst PSG could afford to offer the Portuguese manager extravagant wages, all the big prizes are in the Premier League, not in Ligue 1.

Villas-Boas is an ambitious man. He’s started something at White Hart Lane and I’m sure he’ll want to see it through to its conclusion. He’ll want to see the team that he is crafting make it to a Champions League spot.

Thankfully, he doesn’t seem to be letting the fans down. According to The Mirror Villas-Boas is willing to ‘snub’ PSG (that’s if the Ligue 1 club’s interest is even genuine) and continue to build his legacy with Spurs. But, there is a condition: Tottenham need to prove their ambition in the transfer market.

To be precise, he wants the club to help him pursue David Villa, Leandro Damiao and Paulinho. If he can persuade Daniel Levy and Tottenham’s top brass to splash the cash on players of this quality, next season could be very exciting for Spurs indeed.

Let’s go through these players one by one, starting with the two Brazilians.

England fans will probably best know Paulinho from his wonder-goal in a recent Friendly against Brazil. He’s a hard-working, dynamic talent who could really kick-on and become something special. He’d certainly add something a bit different to Tottenham’s midfield.

Then there’s Leandro Damiao, who is probably the most exciting of all three players. The Brazilian centre-forward has proven himself at Internacional and is ready to make the step up to a top club in a competitive League. Those who saw him at last summer’s Olympics (where he finished top scorer) will attest to his quality. He’ll certainly add goals to Tottenham’s weary attack.

As too will David Villa, Spain’s all time top goal-scorer. The Barcelona forward has been earning less and less game-time at the Nou Camp and may well be itching for a move. Yes he has injury problems and isn’t getting any younger but he has great pedigree. His presence may well be enough to push Spurs up into a top four finish next season.

Signing all three players would significantly improve Tottenham’s attack. From what we’ve seen so far, Andre Villas-Boas is leading the club to a very exciting place. Let’s just hope that the men with the money will support him in his mission.

What’s your take? Should Spurs be chasing Leandro Damiao, David Villa and Paulinho?

No! Paulinho looks a good player and will certainly add something to our midfield but he isn’t the creative player spurs are crying out for and neither are the two strikers!

      Who is then ?

No! chris you no nothing.. fucking idiot

    • Greg says:

Agreed, we are crying out for a player such as Pjanic or someone similar to Modric. If we get Leandro Damiao, its all good, but then we going to have the problem of getting the ball to him, which we saw so often last season that we couldn’t break down defences, so i would have Paulinho, Sandro and then a CREATIVE player in the middle of them in the 3 man midfield

  • Danny Oz says:

Sorry Chris but your wrong Pauliniho is a box to box midfielder if we’re playing 433 next year which seems likely will need Sandro and another DM type (pauliniho) to complement Dembele with Holtby as 1st choice reserve
Add a decent left back onto that list then will be top 4 at least

Yes, yes and ahh.. yes 🙂

Our problems last season were finnishing (Bale apart) & defence. With Kaboul & Sandro back we mainly need some top strikers. Our middfield was mostly creative enough & if Paulinho joins Dembele will be able to join Bale, Siggy & Holtby as the creative force in CM. Yes Eriksen etc would be good additions but not essential.

Still say we need a creative midfield, coz how many shots were taken outside of the D, i dont know stats, but would be very helpful to get a creative midfielder in there. Maybe Holtby could do the job this season though, we will have to wait and see. But i do agree that our main focus should be on getting 1 or 2 strikers to join the club and then a creative midfielder, if there is money to spend (which i highly doubt) but would be too good of a transfer window if we get 2 top strikers and a creative midfielder.

Whoever spurs buy it’ll be the right men for the job. To often us yids sit here and play fantasy football with exotic foreign names with absolutely no true knowledge of these players or the tactics AVBs going to employ. He’s a clever man. If Paulinhos the first signing then he’s obviously one of few that he believes can fill the gap to move to 4-3-3.
