Arsenal, Spurs or Liverpool: where next for David Villa?

Image for Arsenal, Spurs or Liverpool: where next for David Villa?

David VillaAccording to The Mirror, Barcelona striker David Villa is ‘definitely’ coming to the Premier League this summer. The only remaining question is which club he will join.

It’s thought that Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool are all interested in the striker. This isn’t all that surprising given that all three clubs have had well-document issues with their forwards over the last year or so.

David Villa, on the other hand, has struggled to re-build his career at the Nou Camp, following a major injury. After nine months out on the sidelines, the Spanish forward has failed to establish himself as a first-teamer this season. At 31-years-old, it wouldn’t surprise me if he was keen to move to a club where the competition isn’t Lionel Messi.

It’s claimed he could be available for £12m. Assuming all three Premier League clubs are willing to stump up the cash, which would be the best fit for Spain’s all-time top scorer?

Let’s talk first about Arsenal. Villa would certainly represent a step-up on Olivier Giroud, Arsenal’s only real out-and-out centre-forward option. But I’m not sure he’s the right man for the job. With Arsene’s contract coming to an end next year, he’ll want to give the next Arsenal boss the best chance of success. This means buying players with re-sell value.

Spurs have similar issues upfront. Whilst Jermaine Defoe has blown hot and cold this season, Emmanuel Adebayor has been disappointing throughout. With Tottenham desperate to earn Champions League football, Villa could be just the ticket, even if he’s only a short-term option.

Finally, there’s Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers brought in Daniel Sturridge last January, but it wasn’t enough to stop the rot. With all the speculation surrounding Luis Suarez’s future, the Reds may need to make further reinforcements to their forward line this summer. If Suarez goes, Villa won’t be able to replace him alone, but he would certainly be a good start.

All in all, I’d argue that the best fit for Villa is Tottenham. Andre Villas-Boas will be able to offer the Spaniard regular first team football. Arsene Wenger would probably play Villa out on the wing (as is his want) and Brendan wouldn’t play him ahead of Suarez. It would give him the opportunity he needs to re-build his career, whilst putting Spurs in a stronger position for next season’s top four battle.

That being said, there’s no telling where he’ll end up. But if his future is with Tottenham, he’ll have made a smart move.

What’s your take? Which club best suits David Villa?

As a Liverpool fan i dont want him at Liverpool.Villa’s a top class striker but it’s not what we need right now.even if Suarez leaves, there are other places where we’re bad.just look at our attack in the 4 last games of last season where Suarez didnt play,we scored a lot of goals easily.the combination of Coutinho and Sturridge upfront was amazing.as a Liverpool fan,i’ve been frustrated by our defense this season.from what i hear and what i think,Suarez,Carroll,Spearing and Reina will be sold in this summer transfer window.in my opinion we’re gonna need a new goalkeeper,a new centerback,a new attacking midfielder and a new right winger for the starting eleven.that said, our bench is very slim.

    Begovic
    Johnson Papadopoulos Agger Enrique
    Gerrard Lucas
    Arda Eriksen Coutinho
    Sturridge

i feel that this starting eleven would be much better than last season’s.and that’s why i dont think that we would be interested in David Villa, because we have problems in other positions than the attack.my bet would be to join Tottenham but if that happened,it would probably mean that Tottenham have sold Bale and that would be too bad for them.

Guys the truth is Arsenal is the right destination for David Villa for many reason 1st Arsenal are consistently plays Champions league and become regular member in the competition which is a dream for every player, 2nd Despite our trophies draught for 8 straight yrs, Arsenal still considered to be one of the European giants 3rd in arsenal getting regular play time is more likely than in liverfools but unfortunately he won’t join Arsenal even if he desires to do so coz the club management won’t bother to bring him in while they can have 7 French players with the same budget. So Liverpool might be the next destination if they ought to let Suerez go but Spuds has high chance to secure the Spanish striker coz joinning liverfool is career suicidal.
