£23m star fancies Arsenal switch: time to make it happen?

Marouane FellainiDespite Arsenal failing to secure silverware again last season, there was plenty of evidence to suggest that the Gunners were no longer easy to bully. Arsenal didn’t lose games because of a lack of character, or fight, they lost games because they didn’t have the firepower to break down stubborn defences.

Yet many fans still feel that the Gunners need to add a bit of brawn to their midfield. They argue that Arsenal focus too much on small, technically gifted players (like Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, etc) and send those who don’t fit this mould packing (Alex Song).

Still, it’s difficult to argue that Mikel Arteta did a bad job in the holding role last season. He protected the back-four, he won a lot of fouls and he rarely ever gave the ball away. His form in this position suggests to me that Arsenal don’t really need to bolster this area of the pitch. That’s unless they can find somebody who would significantly improve their midfield.

This brings me to Marouane Fellaini. According to The Mirror, the big Belgium is ready and willing to move to the Emirates this season. The source even labels it his ‘dream transfer’.

It’s also thought that Arsenal are unwilling to meet Fellaini’s release clause. Everton would be forced into selling should the Gunners offer £23m, but thus far Arsene Wenger has been unwilling to splash the cash.

This seems typical of Arsenal, a club notorious for their tight-fisted approach to the transfer market. The Gunners are thought to be flush with cash, following a couple of great commercial deals and a pro-longed period of limited (net) spending. And yet they’re unwilling to pay full-price for a player who had an explosive season last year.

Fellaini seems to be a perfect fit for Arsenal. Yes, he’s big, bulky and physically strong, but he’s also technically gifted and knows how to pass the ball about and score goals. He’s got real character and the ability to turn a game on its head.

Nobody’s going to try and out-muscle Fellaini, but they may be taken unawares by his ability with the ball at his feet. I’d say he’s worth £23m because he’s exactly the player Arsenal need at the moment. He’s also the right age and is surely looking to make the step up to a bigger club.

He just seems to check every box. Let’s just hope Wenger’s willing to cash the cheque! (Did you see what I did there?)

What’s your take? Should Arsenal trigger Marouane Fellaini’s release clause?

I would have signed Fellaini as soon as I found out he was available ,If Wenger misses out then that’s his problem if he can’t reconise World Class then sorry” this player has everything Strength,Power, Speed ,Passing, Scoring Goals everything ticks the boxes for 23m ,like I said If Wenger misses this Player then I really can’t see where we will find another like him ,Fellaini is a gem that pop’s up once in a while and if Arsenal could find better value fair enough — But there isan’t because he is the best ,Go get him Wenger before it’s too late..

    • Bogbrush says:

Then why don’t barca want him?

    • arsenalbpl says:

If he is the best then why arent other big clubs after him. Lets face it did he get Everton into top four. No. Wasnt even the best player on the squad. He is good but he is not the end all, superstar player that you just have to get. IMO

  • Oguche o theophilus says:

    We need him very well

  • mesfin welday says:

oh ! please i know AW very well. u will c him @ the end of the transfer window he will say that ” we didn’t found a quality players 2 buy and we do have our own quality players like o.girude, park,podo,gervi…..etc”

  • Nel omofolarin says:

23milion for fellaini…..as a typical arsenal fan,I will say 23m sounds pretty much for a player of his mould, yet, given the years of experience in the premier league, having being tested and acknowledged to be an excellent midfielder both on defensive and attacking front,I think fellaini is worth the price-tag attached to him. Well,it’s my opinion but it’s left for wenger to decide on this, but the fact remains largely undoubtedly welcomed by all that, fellaini will improve the quality of our mid field.

  • Bakson toheeb says:

Pls tell wenger to spend cash in on higuain and fellani quiqly because if he fail to sign them again there is nothing for us again this season i’m also a football player and i also feel the way arsenal feel. i’m also a good player and i’m just 17 if he can get me he will never regret in case he want’s to see me tell him to search on facebook. bakare toheeb thanks

  • LMAdeniken says:

quite absurd that Wenger is thinking twice before triggering Fellani’s buyout clause of #23m. No midfield player gives you value like Maraoune in today’s market.

  • Edson Kamtukule says:

He is just the type of player Arsenal needs.

  • Greg says:

I don’t see why not. Aren’t we suppose to be a big club? I’m tired of hearing that Arsenal are ready to ‘splash the cash’. We’ve made no signings so far and June is almost over. By the end of this transfer window I want to see top class signings that will bring glory back to Arsenal. Enough with the talking and start acting like you’re serious about bringing players such as Fellaini to the club. He says he wants to join us so I don’t see a reason why Wenger should be reluctant. Arsene, please don’t mess up this summer for us.

  • emma says:

Wenger is an idiot. He is just interested in renewing his own contract for struggling to be number 4

    • real red blood says:

      you must a idiot ……………

    • Oguntuase Amos says:

How can you call a respected person like Wenger an idiot? Does your likes have home training? It is very uncharitable of you and I hope you desist from this kind of behaviour.

  • Vincent says:

Fella is an ideal type of player we lack nd need but here we’r talking about arsenal nd A W.whose ideoogis have long changed from wining trophies to accumulating profits.
As aclub,we wld be able to pay dat amount for such a classy player who wld add still in our midfield but the pipo running the club do not want dat.Am not suprised that we shall suffer from Fella’s power as he s going to play for one of the opponents.

  • sammyginger says:

An Ideal signing for my team, wenger please jst trigger his claus nd add Higuain, wanyama dats a very gud transfers pls.

  • George says:

  • Adeniyi says:

I see no reason why we shouldn’t go for him. Am a big fan of his. He has got a real talent and can cause havoc to any team in the world.

  • victor Xavier says:
