Arturo VidalSir Alex Ferguson has gone and David Moyes has stepped up to take the reins. This alone, is sure to make next season one of the most fascinating years of Premier League football yet.

As the season draws to a close and managers switch allegiance, the battle lines for next season are being drawn. There’s bound to be a lot of changes over the summer and the footballing landscape will be altered considerably.

This is true for the managers, but it counts double for players. As clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City attempt to come to terms with the fact that they’ve (largely) disappointed this season, the transfer market is likely to feel their wrath.

I’m other words, they’ll look to ease their pain by snapping up players with the quality to help them improve next season. The problem for the likes of Manchester United (and Arsenal and Liverpool) is that Chelsea and City both have almost infinite funds to draw from.

But it’s up to Moyes to keep pace with these clubs in the transfer market and ensure that Manchester United can defend their title next season.

This could be more challenging than most fans care to think, but if the right players are brought in, Moyes could get off to a flying start.

With this in mind, it’s disappointing to hear The International Business Times claim that Manchester United have ‘suffered a blow’ in their attempts to signing Juventus’ crafty midfielder, Arturo Vidal.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been an integral part of Juve’s title winning side. His quick feet, vision and intelligence have helped Juventus to carve open rigid defences and he’s even contributed 10 goals this season (and 8 assists).

Given his success, it’s would surprise nobody if he started looking for a move elsewhere. But that’s not the case. He’s said: “I’m content and I am not thinking about anything else. Obviously you never know what will happen in football, but I’m happy here. I have an excellent relationship with boss Antonio Conte. He’s an exceptional person and an out of the ordinary coach.”

That’s pretty conclusive stuff. All Manchester United can do now is put Juventus in a position where the best possible move for them would be to sell the player. That may mean paying a lot of money. The IB Times have suggested a £30m figure and that may be enough to tempt the Serie A side.

It’s a lot of money, but it would send a major message to United’s rivals.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal splash out on Arturo Vidal?
