Would this signing really make Manchester United ‘unstoppable’?

Radamel FalcaoManchester United fans may have thought they hit the mother-load last summer, when they signed Robin Van Persie from rival club Arsenal. But could things be about to get even better this summer?

The freshly crowned Champions already have a strong forward line, but it may well get stronger still.

As this ESPN article notes, some of the players getting linked to United at the moment are Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski and Radamel Falcao. These are players who are at the top of their game. Players who could improve an already strong United squad.

Former Newcastle striker, Faustino Asprilla has spoken out about these potential signings and a conversation he had with Falcao:

“We were talking and he asked me my opinion on who he should join. He is not a player motivated by money – what he wants is somewhere that his family will be happy and where he will have success. With teams like Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester City they have good times then they have bad times – that is why I told him he must choose Manchester United. Every season they are challenging – and if he wants success that is where I have told him to go.

If he signs for Manchester United – he would be their missing piece in the Champions League. Robin van Persie and Radamel would be unstoppable.”

If Asprilla does really have a direct line to Falcao, I’m delighted to hear that he’s using it to big up Manchester United. Falcao would cost Manchester United an absolute fortune, but the move may well secure the Red Devils success for years to come.

The thought of the powerful presence of Falcao, playing alongside the graceful, technical presence that is Van Persie, is almost too much to bear. Manchester United already have one of world football’s best forward lines, but adding Falcao to the set-up would end all competition. ‘Unstoppable’ is about right.

Asprilla notes that Falcao wont move for money. I would take these claims with a pinch of salt. The likes of Chelsea and Manchester City may well be able to offer bigger wages and this may be a factor in Falcao’s decision. But if he is drawn to the history and success-hungry nature of Manchester United, he’d be a perfect fit for the club.

Let’s hope that Sir Alex is ready to get persuasive and that the club’s top brass is willing to throw money at Atletico Madrid to make a deal happen.

What’s your take? How good would Manchester United be if they signed Radamel Falcao?

united need a centre back, winger and central midfielder… have lots of options up front. both ferdinand and vidic are missing 2 many games through injury now. scholes and giggs have been top class for many years now but have to be replaced. young and nani have been shockingly bad this season in terms of the standard other players at the club are at and have to go. would love to see great young established players coming in for these positions instead of young prospects so will go with hummels or varane, strootman or gundogan, bale or rodriges…. not asking for 2 much!!!

At the back, although Vidic and Ferdinand are getting old, we still have Smalling, Jones and Evans. We can rotate Ferdinand and Vidic allowing them to get more rest. I am very against using Jones in the midfield. The best position for this guy is centre back. He does not have the ball-passing quality to play in the midfield. When we counter attack, we need someone who can run with the ball, look up and provide critical pass to the front guys. Jones does not have this quality. So, we should stick with him at the back.
Forward, we have too many options, RVP, Rooney, Chicha, Welbeck, Kagawa. Who else do we need? Middle, we have serious problem and we have been struggling against strong opponents already. with the current middle guys, I really can’t see ourself competing against our serious local challengers (Chelsea, Man City, etc) let alone those European top guys. Given the option we have, I am not too worried about the front and the back. It is the middle problem we need to solve.
