Younes BelhandaI have to say, I like the way that Ligue 1 side, Montpellier do their business. Their no-nonsense, ‘here’s how it is’ approach to the transfer market is all the more endearing given the fact that they wound up French League champions last season.

Since then however, they’ve felt the influence of PSG’s cash-influx and have fallen behind considerably. Whilst PSG continue to bring in players (Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva… David Beckham!) Montpellier have to keep shipping them out. Last season’s Ligue 1 top scorer, Olivier Giroud, left to join Arsenal. This summer, it looks like their current star player, Younes Belhanda, will move on.

The club’s owner, Louis Nicollin, has treated these circumstances with a certain degree of stoicism: “The door is open for Younes to find a bigger club. I don’t know where he’ll go yet but he wants to leave. I want at least £8million for him.”

That breaks down the situation pretty nicely. Now it’s only up to The Metro to note that Spurs launched a ‘bumper bid’ for this player last summer and suggest they may re-ignite their interest once again. Now we’ve got a real story on our hands!

One thing’s for sure. If Andre Villas-Boas really was interested in the 23-year-old last year, he’ll surely be tempted by the reasonable price-tag Nicollin has affixed to Belhanda.

After all, the Morrocan maestro is one of the best young players in Europe. Just ask Arsenal, who watched him turn it on against them in the group stages of this seasons Champions League. He even ended up slipping in a Panenka penalty against the Gunners. Isn’t that enough to endear him to Spurs fans already?

Belhanda has quick feet, a great change of pace and plenty of attacking threat. He excels at firing off quick short-passes and linking up with forwards. In many ways, I’d compare him to Lewis Holtby, though I think he has the potential to kick-on and become a really special player.

In terms of value for money, there are very few footballers out there who can match Belhanda. This transfer would also ensure that Spurs still have money left to spend where it matters: on their forward line-up.

In this respect, any potential deal would make some sense. Tottenham could do a lot worse.

What’s your take? Should Spurs swoop for Belhanda, or do they have other more pressing priorities?

Yeah he looks a very good player, very versatile too and with a good goalscoring record, he would be a great addition and would boost our midfield options
