Loic RemySo that’s it. QPR have been a relegated and a tranche of over-paid, over-privileged and under-motivated footballers are likely to flood the markets this season.

Whilst there aren’t likely to be a good deal of takers for QPR’s more apathetic stars, there are a few gems to be clasped from Rangers cold, dead grasp.

Chief among them must surely be January arrival, Loic Remy.

If he were to leave, I’m sure it’d wipe the smile of Harry Redknapp’s face (the same smile he wore as QPR were relegated, following a bore draw with Reading).

It would also put a serious dent in Rangers chances of earning (buying) promotion next season.

Remy is thought to have a £6m release-clause written into his contract. Now that the Rs are relegated, other clubs are free to come in and snatch him up. No wonder the likes of West Ham, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Tottenham are all circling.

But, according to French Football Weekly, Arsenal are ‘without doubt’ in pole position to sign the free-scoring French forward when the summer transfer window opens.

They even go as far as to claim that Remy is a ‘self-confessed’ Arsenal season, who has previously turned down a move to Spurs on that basis. Finally, they dig-out a two year old Arsene Wenger quote about the talented Frenchman:

“Remy improves all the time. [He] Reminds me of a young Thierry: his runs and the speed at which he plays”.

It’s a nice comparison to draw, though Remy still has some way to go to reach that level. Whether or not Arsene is genuinely interested in the 26-year-old remains to be seen, but I do think he would be a good addition at the Emirates.

I’m surprised that Arsenal weren’t competing for his signature back in January. Remy is a striker in the Arsenal mould. He’s the antithesis of the likes of Olivier Giroud – a lumpen, slow, misfiring striker.

Arsenal need somebody with pace, technical ability and an eye for goal. Remy covers all three bases.

Best of all, £6m isn’t a lot of money for a flush Arsenal side. If they sign Remy and bring in another world-class forward (Stevan Jovetic), they could be a force to be reckoned with next season.

What’s your take? Would Loic Remy be a smart addition for Arsenal?
