Could this £22m man be the best signing Arsenal make this summer?

Gonzalo HiguainArsenal’s 4-1 victory over relegated Wigan was one of the club’s best performances this season, along with being one of their most important results.

It sets things up for a fascinating showdown for fourth place on Sunday. Arsenal will head to Newcastle to try and see off Alan Pardew’s French resistance and Spurs will take on Sunderland, who have improved under Paolo Di Canio.

It’s sure to be a tense day for both sets of fans and an interesting one for all the neutrals.

The truth is, however, Arsenal really shouldn’t be in this position as the season draws to a close. This is a club who should be competing for major silverware, not scrabbling around trying desperately to cling on to fourth place.

That this is the case, is evidence that Arsenal have had a disappointing season, even if they do earn Champions League football.

Arsene Wenger will surely recognise this and respond in turn by making amends in the transfer market. With Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla running the midfield, there’s the makings of a good side at Arsenal. One thing’s clear though: they need to sign a top-class striker.

Olivier Giroud has recieved mixed reviews in his first season at Arsenal and probably isn’t a long term solution. Beyond him, unfortunately, there aren’t many players who can play in this position at the club.

As such, it’s exciting to see the club get linked to Real Madrid’s super striker, Gonzalo Higuain. The Mirror claims that Real “circulated word of the Argentina international’s availability for transfer among all of Europe’s top clubs”.

If Arsenal are willing to cough up £22m, Madrid will agree the sale. Naturally, Arsenal, being rather tight-fisted in nature, are trying to negotiate them down to £18m. Maybe the two clubs can meet in the middle?

The Mirror describes this deal as a potentially ‘huge coup’ and I can’t help but agree. The prices quoted for the player are something of a bargain, considering his experience and goal-scoring ability at the very top level.

Gonzalo Higuain is an extremely mobile footballer, with good technique, great link-up play and confidence in front of goal. The fact that he’s scored 119 goals in 262 appearances for Madrid should be rather appealing.

Especially given the fact that at 25-years-old, Higuain is about to enter the best years of his career. Wouldn’t it be something if he did so with Arsenal?

What’s your take? Would Higuain be a good signing for Arsenal?

If Madrid want the right money for this top quality player for gawd’s sake Arsenal give ’em what they want and stop messing about by displaying your usual stingyness..Please sign him now or you will lose him to one of the so called bigger boyz.

Soln: kick peter and Wenger then da club will come to its form. Thank u.

  • Goona says:

In Wengers interview after the game when he was asked about new signings he replied “1 or 2” . Now where have we heard those words before?.
Quite honestly i’m not expecting him to open that rusty purse and spend on quality maybe buy a few cheap young players more’s the pity. He’ll never change…..Nuff said!

  • Aussie Gunner says:

I’d be extremely surprised to see AW actually spend any money at all, it’s all hot,air heard it all before, rumors about buying this and that forever i hear down this end of the world.
We’ll sell couple of good players, and go and get couple of ordinary players to replace them with and win the last 10 games of the season to qualify for the champions leauge.
This will make AW justify his position at the club where he gets paid 7mil. a year for no results, but we’ll live happily ever after for finishing forth AGAIN and qualifying for CL.
Things have to change, club has to realize that without big transfers of good players we can’t compete in PL, and Europe anymore.
SIMPLY FINISHING 4TH EVERY YEAR ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH ANYMORE.
    Have a good day Gooners

  • it's gooner be great again says:

Cheer up me old gooner’s… we’re heading for the good times again. The big signings will come were gonna be number one next season.

  • chris says:

Higuain would be the biggest name and statement of intent shown by Arsenal since the signing of Dennis Bergkamp.
He has phenomenal ability and unpredictable genius that is sadly lacking in our other attacking options.
Higuain and Jovetic and the top 3 would fear us again.

  • Jay says:

Hi Gooners. So now our objective is to secure the 4th place every season!!!!!!

It’s a real shame for a team like Arsenal – the Invincibles. Wenger never finds enough money to buy quality players and even thinks that money cannot help teams win silverwears… Chelsea invested and won the title twice, they won FA Cups, Champions League and Europa League. They will continue to win wiz the Special being back..

Man City did the same by investing hugely. PSG did the same and so did Manu be buying RVP.

Arsenal have lots of money to invest but always go for cheap players…… Those days are gone when players played with their heart. They now play for money and only money…

If we want to win anything the next season, I suggest we buy Rooney and Mc Manaman from Wigan. If Rooney rejects, then go for Higuain or Jovetic.

Wiz RVP going to Manu, Rooney’s role has diminished and he is not at ease anymore there. Get him and he will do everything to prove himself better than RVP…..

Best of luck Gooners. Long Live Arsenal…

  • Reese says:

We tend to have faital injuries every season we need strength in depth and we do need a world class stricker a rb a cb a gk and a cam

  • daffy says:

Please Wenger should get( higuain, jovetic, Ganalon, and 2 defenders).

  • Kris Lemonius says:

“Arsenal, being rather tight-fisted in nature” ….i couldnt have said it better myself, they need to get out of that mentality and start spending thier money on some quality footballers, such as Gonzalo Higuain, David Villa, Radamel Falcao, they also need strong defensive midfeilders who can move with the ball and find openings so the forwards can finish, stop focusing so much on Walcott, he’s improved this season but he’s no RVP
