Could this £17m talent be exactly what Liverpool need?

Christian EriksenChristian Eriksen has been on Liverpool’s radar for some time now. This doesn’t surprise me. Despite his slight frame and lack of real competitive edge, the Danish international talent has been labelled by some, ‘the new Steven Gerrard’.

His all action displays in the centre-of-the-park for Ajax and Denmark have grabbed the attention of pundits and fans alike, who haven’t been shy when it comes to dishing out the superlatives.

Eriksen reminds me a little bit of a youthful Cesc Fabregas. He has a remarkable ability to buy himself time and space on the ball and then craft a perfect pass into the feet of his advancing team-mates.

Despite being only 21-years-old, the Danish ace has a great depth of vision and reads the game extremely well. He’s also proven to be rather effective in front of goal. Though he’s only made 14 league appearances this season, he’s scored 9 times.

In other words, he’s a player that’s worthy of Liverpool’s attention. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if there were a number of clubs seeking his signature this summer. The Reds may have to join the queue.

The player himself is clearly ready to move on. Speaking recently to the Press, Eriksen explained his situation: “I didn’t hear anything from my agent but, if something shows up, I feel like trying. When nothing comes up, I’ll sign a new contract at Ajax because I want Ajax to earn something for me.” (Source: The International Business Times).

It sounds like he’s waiting by the phone for his big move to come in. Could Liverpool be the club to make this happen? The IB Times claim that Brendan Rodgers is leading the charge and that he’d likely cost the Reds around £17m.

That’s a lot of money for a Liverpool, given their current financial situation. But Christian Eriksen should be treated as an investment, one that’s likely to pay dividends over the coming seasons. Eriksen is a player who could realistically double his price-tag over the course of his next contract.

He’d also provide a considerable step-up on the likes of Joe Allen. In the long-term, he’d be able to step in when Steven Gerrard eventually steps down. As contingency plans go, this is a pretty good one.

What’s your take? Should Brendan Rodgers look to snap up Christian Eriksen?

Let B Rodgers buy this young talent erriksen now

  • Patrick says:

If Allen was worth £15m then Eriksen is certainly worth £17m. I’ve a bad feeling Spurs will stick their nose in so I hope they don’t get CL football next season.

being a die hard fan of Liverpool fc, what sinks me into my knees is when the likes of man utd triumph and mercilessly crash clubs that toss problems when its our time to play with them. this shouldn’t be the case. Rodgers must press the owners to eject more cash that can buy us big names or else prepare LFC for relegation. ericksen is not the right medicine for liverpool at the moment. it’s time for us to realize our inability for contesting the top before we find ourselves in mess.

  • Barnabas Bol says:

why don’t the owners feel the agony of a big club like liverpoolfc not winning premier league for over 23years now?Sensible buying is good but not £20m will bring us the players we need.Add the money to £38m then sell five players so that we get mkhitaryan, jackson martinez, tiago illori, kyriakos, tello, douglas, stegen and eriksen

  • paul says:

Brendan has to buy quality players in order to figth for top four.

  • williams s. etete says:

i doubt if the club owners will want to bring out money to strengthen the club because it has already shows in their previous transfer windows.

  • Livmad says:

at least we need more and very talented players, like our skipper and other players pls let’s work hard and cooperate To get To top four form. Even I like To play for liverpool f.c.

Some of the views on here are from people who have clearly never been to Anfield and knowledge of football in general is poor. Firstly the board have invested quite heavily and did so again in January. Financial fair play rules means we cannot just go and spend stupid money and the players we want to rid ourselves of will not generate much money at all. Secondly, true fans now know we are no in the same league as the top clubs. World class players want to play in the Champions League not the Carling Cup. We will however still support the men in red and the manager.

  • James angmor says:

Errikson, 2 defenders and a young experienced goalie will send lfc up high.BR shouldn’t think of selling enrique and downing as rumoured.

  • Lfc says:

Rodgers need to buy this one before he lose him like gaston ramirez.

  • Zanz Kedah says:

I hope next season LFC will not keeping S.Downing yet.He is just ordinary player who cannot develop into exellent or high world class player.Next season much better if LFC can sell out Downing with Carroll,Spearing,Skrtel,Borini and Pacheco.Henderson Lucas and Joe Allen need to be monitoring and push up to shining next season.Suffer and dissapointing if LFC still want to using deadwood who never cannot give big impact every games.LFC look so weaknes because using low class players.
The best is next season must try to get sign young, faster and briliant wingers. The best answer is bring in Christian Tello and Eriksen.Left and right is more dangerous. It is will reduce burden goal scoring for Suarez and Sturridge.
