Stevan JoveticWith Arsenal busily scrapping it out for a fourth place finish, the most exciting club-related news seems to be revolving around the transfer market.

After all, this is a position that the Gunners have been in all too often over the last half-decade or so. Fighting with the likes of Spurs and Liverpool for a place in the Champions League has become an all-too-common occurrence for Arsene Wenger’s side.

But it may not always be this way. Though Arsenal have had a poor season footbally speaking, they’ve done pretty well financially. This includes signing a fantastic new commercial deal, one that’s sure to pump funds into Wenger’s rumoured ‘transfer war-chest’.

As a result, Arsenal have money to spend. Should Arsene Wenger spend it wisely, he may end up in a position to challenge for silverware next season. Now that’d make a nice change.

This makes Goal.com‘s claims that Arsenal are looking to secure two marquee signings this summer rather intriguing. This, I’m sure, would be almost too much for Arsenal fans to bear. After all, they’re used to Arsene Wenger spending as little as possible.

The first marquee signing is rumoured to be long-term Arsenal target Stevan Jovetic. The Montenegrin ace is one of the most crafty strikers in the European game. He has the quick feet of Luis Suarez, along with pace and finishing ability. He’d be an excellent addition to this Arsenal side.

Goal.com say that Arsenal will open the bidding at £17m, whilst Jovetic’s club, Fiorentina, will hold out for £25-30m. Let’s hope Arsenal get their way.

As for the second marquee signing, the same source has lined up Eden Dzeko and Robert Lewandowski as potential candidates. I know which one I’d prefer.

Whilst Edin Dzeko is a quality player, who has scored some important goals this season, Lewandowski is on an entirely different level.

Anybody who watched the deadly Polish forward take apart Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final, can attest to his ability.

He’d be a massive step-up on the likes of Olivier Giroud.

If there’s any truth to these claims, then it’s exciting to see Arsene already lining up big summer moves. Should these deals be secured, the club will be in an extremely strong position come next summer.

What’s your take? Could Stevan Jovetic and Robert Lewandowski put Arsenal in contention for the title?

Well for a start, Dortmund beat Real Madrid, not Barcelona, and secondly, I’d say Edin Dzeko is every bit as good as Lewandowski. Infact, I’d rather have him, his record in Germany was just as impressive.

I don’t think two strikers would be on the cards.I believe jovetic will come though.I also believe giroud will be a big player next season..For me a CB,RB and a DM with jovetic will do.

  • Afc13 says:

Well since Lewandowski hasn’t played against barca this year I guess no one can attest to his ability.

  • Marford says:

I don’t think Wenger has changed in terms of recruitment of players, the three players mentioned are very good but Wenger don’t have the heart to spend big for them, so Arsenal remains a heart broken club to us the fans .

  • Ilyas says:

I’d like to say I seriously doubt if monsiuer wenger would go for such proven strikers.if AW could’nt sign demba ba,how would he sign lewandowski?.let’s face it,AW would rather go for that st ettiene striker, forgotten his name.thanks

  • Uzoo timevarist says:

Lewandowski is the type of world class striker that every club faithful would be most excited to watch week-in-week-out in his lovely club..please arsenal board should sign him before its late

  • mr mad says:

Why do people believe all this crap, only person who actually knows who’s coming in is wenger . not some jumped up 2bit journalists who just say shit to sell there storeys

  • Patrick Nyakundi Mogaka says:

Jovetic and Lewy will be wonderful waau how i wish they could be as the transfer window opens.

  • Sam says:

Lewandowski never scored against Barcelona. His 4 goals came in the 4-1 home victory over Real Madrid.

  • Chris says:

2 World class strikers is all we need for the title. Jovetic and Lewandowski would take us all the way. No chance of it happening though.

From Bergkamp, Henry and RVP, to Giroud… Is it any wonder we can’t win anything?
Nothing against Giroud, hut he should be behind a top world class talent at a club with the stature of Arsenal.

    City -Tevez, Aguero, Dzeko.
    Utd -RVP, Rooney, Hernandez.
    Us – Giroud.
    Serious investment required.
    It’s not rocket science.
